Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), an autonomous institute under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, has released Advertisement No. 06/2026 for 1 Project Assistant post to work in the laboratory of Dr. Leny Jose, Scientist - E1. RGCB is based in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, and carries out translational research in genomics, molecular medicine, cancer biology and infectious diseases. The position is attached to the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) funded project titled "Targeting Human Papillomavirus Replication and Cancer Progression Using Proteolysis-Targeting Chimeras (PROTACs)." ANRF is the Government of India's apex research funding body, formed to support science and technology research across the country. The project studies how PROTAC molecules — a newer class of drugs that can selectively break down disease-causing proteins — can be used to target HPV-driven cancers, and you would support this research directly in the lab. This is a one-year contract role that can be extended based on your performance, and it will end along with the project. It does not entitle you to any future or permanent position at RGCB. Biotechnology postgraduates with an interest in molecular and cell biology should apply.

Who Can Apply?

RGCB is looking for a biotechnology graduate who can combine wet-lab and basic computational skills for cancer research. Here is what you need:

• Qualification: Master's Degree in Biotechnology from a recognized university with at least 70% marks and a consistent academic record.
• Skills: Good theoretical understanding of molecular biology and cell biology, and good communication skills.
• Preferred Qualification: NET or GATE.
• Preferred Skills: Experience in Python, Linux and TCGA analysis, along with cell culture, infectious disease research, and small-molecule/degrader screening.

Age Limit

• You should be up to 28 years old as on 17 July 2026.
• Age Relaxation: As per Government of India norms for reserved categories.

Salary

• You will get Rs. 27,000 + 20% HRA (about Rs. 32,400) per month.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written test for this position. Selection is done in 2 stages:

1. Eligibility Screening: Your online application is checked against the qualification criteria, and eligible candidates are shortlisted.
2. Online Selection Interview: Shortlisted candidates are interviewed online. Final selection is based on your qualifications and interview performance.
