RGCB Project Research Scientist II Recruitment 2026: Overview

BRIC-Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Thiruvananthapuram, an institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, is looking for a Project Research Scientist II (Non-medical). The post belongs to the ICMR Intramural Centre for Collaborative Research (CCR) on Malaria and Host Factors, and you will work in the group led by Dr. Rajesh Chandramohanadas, Scientist F.

This is a project position on contract, not a regular government post. The centre studies malaria together with the host factors that shape the infection, so the work sits where infectious disease biology meets bio-engineering and bio-physics. A PhD holder who already has hands-on time with mammalian or microbial cell culture, omics or microscopy will fit best.

RGCB also values practical lab and data skills: experience with blood and blood-borne infectious samples, single-cell assays, mechanobiology or cellular phenotyping, and coding in Python, R and machine learning tools. A record of papers in peer-reviewed journals and some project coordination experience will strengthen your profile.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Citizenship: Only Indian citizens can apply.
• Tenure: The first term is one year or until the project ends, whichever comes first. Extension depends on your performance review.
• No future claim: Selection does not give you a right to any later position at RGCB, permanent or otherwise. Like every RGCB project post, it ends with the project.
• Field travel: The centre prefers someone who can travel to partner institutions in the Northeast for field sample collection and joint research.
• Two qualification routes: A first-class postgraduate degree with a PhD is enough; with a second-class postgraduate degree you need the PhD plus three years of relevant experience.
• Government staff: If you work in a government organisation, send your application through proper channel.
