About This Job

NIT Silchar JRF Chemistry Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar) is engaging a Junior Research Fellow in the Department of Chemistry for a Department of Biotechnology, Government of India-sponsored project. The research brings together genetically engineered microalgae, membrane-based photobioreactors, activated biochar, carbon-dioxide capture and biofuel generation, with a life-cycle assessment linking the different parts of the study. This is a focused research appointment, so it is best suited to someone who wants hands-on work across chemistry, biotechnology and environmental materials rather than a general laboratory position.

The project is led by Dr. Samuel Lalthazuala Rokhum with Dr. Shanti Gopal Patra as co-investigator. Your work will sit within a defined sponsored study, and the desirable background listed in the notice ranges from microalgae and photobioreactors to catalysis, materials characterisation and carbon capture. The interdisciplinary scope is the main feature of this opening: you may need to connect biological cultivation, reactor systems, material preparation and analytical results while keeping the larger biofuel and sustainability goals in view.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project tenure: The appointment runs for two years or until the project ends, whichever happens first.
  • Performance review: Continuation is reviewed every 12 months, so extension is tied to the selected fellow's performance.
  • Sponsored-project rules: The Department of Biotechnology and institute guidelines govern the engagement.
  • Shortlisting: NIT Silchar may restrict the interview list after screening the applications, and it may leave the position unfilled if no suitable person is found.
  • Interview travel: The institute will not pay TA or DA for attending the interview or for joining the position.
  • Current employment: If you are already employed, you must bring a no-objection certificate from your employer at the interview.
  • Joining agreement: The selected fellow must sign an agreement when joining the project.

Application Submission Notes

Send the filled application form, your CV and supporting documents by email to rokhum@che.nits.ac.in. Use the subject line "Application for the post of JRF under the project BT/PR60588/CCU/173/38/2025" so the application reaches the correct project file.

The notice includes its own application format and asks for education details from Class X onward, NET or GATE information where relevant, employment history and category details. Check that the form and attachments are complete before emailing them, because the institute will use the submitted record for screening. Interview timing and the offline venue will be sent later by email, so keep the address and phone number in your form active.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments on microalgae, photobioreactors and activated biochar
  • Prepare and characterise materials used in carbon-dioxide capture studies
  • Record experimental observations and keep research data organised
  • Operate laboratory equipment safely and follow approved research protocols
  • Analyse results for biofuel generation and life-cycle assessment work
  • Prepare progress updates and support technical reports for the project
  • Coordinate research tasks with the principal investigator and project team
