NIT Silchar Project Associate-I Recruitment 2026: Overview

The National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar), an Institute of National Importance in Assam, is hiring a Project Associate-I for a research project in its Department of Mechanical Engineering. The project is funded by ANRF-DST, Government of India under the Advanced Research Grant (ARG) programme and works on self-repairing, EMI-shielding carbon-fibre composites (CFRPs) built with MXene for next-generation aircraft structures. This is a temporary, project-linked post, so it lasts only as long as the project. If you have a science or engineering background and have worked with nanomaterials or composites, this is a good place to build research experience.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Project title: Empowering Self-Repairability and EMI Shielding in Frontal Polymerised CFRPs Using Covalent Adaptive Network-Grafted MXene for Next Generation Aircraft Structures (sanction no. ANRF/ARG/2025/011059/ENS).
  • Science graduates: a four-year B.Sc or an M.Sc fits, preferably in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Chemistry, Materials Science, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Applied Chemistry or Plastic Technology.
  • Engineering graduates: a B.E./B.Tech fits, preferably in Mechanical, Materials Science, Metallurgical and Materials, Aerospace, Chemical and Polymer, Plastic Engineering or Polymer Technology.
  • Useful hands-on skills: nanomaterial synthesis, self-healing composites, rapid polymerisation, CFRP and composite manufacturing, and mechanical testing of materials.
  • Project guide: Dr. Sudipta Halder, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, is the Co-Principal Investigator.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Pay depends on NET/GATE: The higher pay band is only for candidates selected through CSIR-UGC NET (including Lectureship), GATE or a similar national-level exam; others get the lower band, both with HRA.
  • Service age cap: Your total service on the post cannot go beyond the age of 60.
  • Relaxation: Relaxation in qualification and age follows Government of India rules.
  • Working candidates: If you are employed, bring a No Objection Certificate from your employer to the interview.
  • Screening: The institute may shortlist candidates for the interview and may not fill the post if no suitable candidate is found.
  • Agreement: The selected candidate must sign an agreement at the time of joining.
