NRL Advisor Recruitment 2026: Overview

Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), a Navratna public sector company under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, is engaging experienced Advisors for its utility plants at Numaligarh in Assam. The refinery is in the middle of a mega expansion from 3 to 9 MMTPA, and new boiler, effluent treatment, nitrogen and DM water units need seasoned hands while they are commissioned. NRL wants retired officers and senior professionals who have actually run these plants, whether they come from NRL, Oil India, another PSU, a government body or the private sector.

Each Advisor guides the commissioning and trial runs of one plant and then trains the new operators who will take it over. If you have spent your career in a boiler house, an ETP or a water and gas utility, this short engagement lets you pass that know-how on to the next team.

Posts and Disciplines

• Advisor (Boiler Operation): high-pressure boiler operations and statutory boiler compliance; only candidates holding a Boiler Operation Engineer (BOE) certificate can apply.
• Advisor (Operation - ETP): the Effluent Treatment Plant, with a strong focus on environmental and pollution control compliance.
• Advisor (Operation - Nitrogen Plant): commissioning, testing and running the refinery's new nitrogen plant.
• Advisor (Operation - DM Plant): commissioning, testing and running the new demineralised (DM) water plant.

For every post, your hands-on experience must be in operating the same type of plant you apply for, so pick the advisory role that matches your own operating background.

Post-wise Duties

Advisor (Boiler Operation)

You will give expert guidance during boiler commissioning and trial runs, oversee high-pressure boiler operation, and make sure the plant follows good operating practice and IBR/BOE statutory rules. You will also run technical training for new operators and attendants.

Advisor (Operation - ETP)

You will guide the commissioning, stabilisation and performance guarantee test runs of the ETP, troubleshoot process parameters, and keep the plant within environmental and pollution control norms. Hand-holding training for new operators is part of the job.

Advisor (Operation - Nitrogen Plant)

You will guide the commissioning and performance testing of the new nitrogen plant, take part in its operation, and train new operators on running it.

Advisor (Operation - DM Plant)

You will guide the commissioning and testing of the new DM plant, help operate it, and give hands-on training to the new operators.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The engagement lasts up to 12 months from the date you join.
• Retired PSU officers: If you retired from a central PSU, you must have superannuated from Grade C, D or E; your fixed monthly pay depends on that grade.
• Clean record: No vigilance case, departmental proceeding or criminal prosecution should be pending or contemplated against you at retirement or when you apply, and you must declare this in your CV.
• Lump-sum pay: The monthly amount is all-inclusive; TDS and other statutory deductions come out of it, and no separate allowances are paid.
• Touring: You are based at Numaligarh but must travel to other NRL work locations when the job needs it; TA/DA on tour follows NRL rates for the equivalent grade.
• Working hours: You keep normal office timings alongside the regular officers and may be called in on weekly offs or holidays when something is urgent.
• Leave: 20 days of paid leave for every 12 months on a pro-rata basis, plus NRL's normal company holidays.
• Exclusivity: You cannot take up any other assignment while engaged with NRL.
• Medical fitness: You must produce a fitness certificate before engagement; the opinion of NRL's authorised hospital or medical officer is final.
