About This Job

Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) has released notification for 1 Assistant Professor in General Surgery post under the Medical Education Department. This is a First NCA (Non-Community Appointment) recruitment reserved for the Viswakarma community (Cat.No.14/2026). Kerala PSC Assistant Professor in General Surgery Recruitment 2026

Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) has invited online applications for filling 1 vacancy of Assistant Professor in General Surgery in Kerala Government Medical Colleges. This notification (Gazette dated 31.03.2026) is specifically an NCA recruitment aimed at filling a reserved vacancy for the Viswakarma community that remained unfilled from the parent Ranked List published on 05.09.2024 (Cat.No.345/2023). Only candidates belonging to the Viswakarma community of Kerala State are eligible to apply. No application fee is charged by KPSC, making this a zero-cost opportunity for eligible medical professionals.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification (any one of the following routes):

  • Route 1: MS or DNB in General Surgery, plus 1 year experience as Senior Resident in General Surgery at a recognized Medical College after obtaining the PG degree.
  • Route 2: Specialist Medical Officers of Armed Forces with at least 1 year teaching experience or 2 years clinical experience after PG degree in the concerned subject.
  • Route 3: Non-teaching Consultant, Specialist, or Medical Officer with PG degree in the subject and at least 2 years experience in a Government Hospital with 220+ beds. Must complete Basic Course in Biomedical Research within 2 years of appointment.
  • Route 4: Diploma holders appointed as Senior Residents in a recognized medical institution before 08.06.2017 with total 4 years experience as Senior Resident.
  • Route 5: Diploma holders working as Specialist or Medical Officer with 6 years cumulative experience in a government medical institution.

Other Requirements:

  • Medical Registration: Permanent Registration under Kerala State Medical Council (TCMC) or Council for Modern Medicine is mandatory.
  • Community: You must belong to the Viswakarma community of Kerala State. Applications from other communities will be summarily rejected.
  • Qualification Standard: As per NMC Regulations 2025, Medical Institutions (Qualification of Faculty) Regulations, 2025 dated 30.06.2025.

Age Limit

  • You should be between 22 and 50 years old.
  • You must have been born between 02 January 1976 and 01 January 2004 (both dates included).
  • This already includes the age relaxation as per Para 2(i) of the General Conditions.
  • For other age relaxation categories, refer to Part II, Para 2 of the General Conditions (except Para 2(i)).

Salary

  • Pay is as per UGC norms (Academic Level 12 under 7th CPC).
  • Entry pay at Level 12 starts from approximately Rs. 57,700 per month (basic).
  • Pay range at Level 12: Rs. 57,700 to Rs. 2,11,500 per month.
  • You will also get DA, HRA, and other allowances as per Kerala Government rules.

  • No application fee is required for any category.
  • KPSC does not charge any fee for submitting applications through the One Time Registration portal.

Selection Process

The selection process may include the following stages as decided by KPSC:

  1. Written Test / OMR / Online Test: If conducted, candidates must submit a confirmation for appearing in the exam through their One Time Registration profile. Admission tickets will be available for download in the last 15 days before the test date.
  2. Document Verification: Original documents proving qualification, experience, age, and community will be verified.

How to Apply

  2. Register using the One Time Registration system if you have not already.
  3. Log in to your profile using your User ID and password.
  4. Find Cat.No.14/2026 in the Notification section and click Apply Now.
  5. Fill in the required details in the application form.
  6. Upload your photograph (taken within the last 6 months, with your name and date printed at the bottom).
  7. Submit the application. Keep a printout or soft copy for future reference.

Important Notes

  • Candidates with AADHAAR Card should add it as ID Proof in their KPSC profile.
  • Those appointed must serve 4 years in Defence Services during the first 10 years of service, if required. Persons above 45 years and differently abled candidates are exempt.
  • If your caste/community in the application differs from your SSLC book, you must produce a Gazette Notification along with Non Creamy Layer Certificate or Community Certificate during verification.
  • All correspondence with the Commission must include your User ID and a printout of the application.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in General Surgery as per the approved curriculum
  • Conduct surgical procedures and manage patient care in the assigned department
  • Supervise and mentor junior residents and interns during clinical rotations
  • Prepare and evaluate examinations, assignments, and clinical assessments
  • Conduct research in General Surgery and publish findings in academic journals
  • Participate in departmental meetings, academic committees, and administrative activities
  • Attend emergency surgeries and on-call duties as required by the institution
