The Narcotics Control Bureau, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has issued a vacancy circular to fill one post of Deputy Director (Law) at its Headquarters in New Delhi. Recruitment is 100% by deputation, including short-term contract (STC), and NCB prefers Law Officers from Central Government agencies like NIA, CBI, and ED, or Public Prosecutors from State Governments, Union Territories, PSUs, or recognized universities/research institutions. Candidates with experience handling NDPS (drugs) cases will have an added advantage. Who Can Apply?

  • Eligibility Route: You should be holding an analogous post on a regular basis in your parent cadre/department, OR have 5 years of regular service in Level-11 posts (or equivalent), OR 7 years of regular service in Level-10 posts (or equivalent).
  • Qualification: Bachelor's Degree in Law from a recognized university.
  • Experience: At least 10 years of practice as an Advocate in conducting criminal cases.
  • Desirable: 5 years of experience as an Advocate handling NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases.
  • Eligible Organizations: Law Officers from Central Government agencies (such as NIA, CBI, ED), Public Prosecutors of State Governments/Union Territories, Autonomous or Statutory Organizations, PSUs, recognized universities, or recognized research institutions.

Age Limit

  • You should not be older than 56 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications.
  • Your deputation in an ex-cadre post immediately preceding this appointment should not exceed 4 years.

Salary

  • This post carries a salary of Rs. 78,800 to Rs. 2,09,200 per month under Pay Level-12 of the 7th Central Pay Commission (pre-revised PB-3 Rs. 15,600-39,100 + Grade Pay Rs. 7,600).

Selection Process

Selection for this deputation post works as follows:

  1. Application Screening: Your bio-data, legal practice record, and APARs are screened by NCB.
  2. Document Verification: Your integrity certificate, vigilance clearance, and cadre clearance are checked before you can join.

Note: If you are selected, you will not be allowed to withdraw your candidature. If you fail to join after selection, you will be debarred from future deputation in NCB.

Responsibilities

  • Review and vet legal matters related to NDPS Act cases handled by NCB
  • Coordinate with Public Prosecutors representing NCB during criminal trials
  • Advise NCB officers on legal procedures for drug law enforcement operations
  • Draft and review legal opinions, notices, and prosecution documents
  • Monitor court proceedings and case progress across NCB zones
  • Liaise with Central and State law enforcement agencies on legal matters
  • Guide investigation teams on evidentiary and procedural compliance
  • Maintain records of ongoing litigation and case outcomes

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Law from a recognized university, with 10 years of practice as an Advocate in conducting criminal cases

Preferred Qualification

5 years experience as an Advocate in conducting NDPS cases
