About This Job

Apply for 3 SRF/JRF posts in DIAT Pune. B.Tech/M.Sc/M.Tech in Electronics or Physics. Stipend: Rs 30,000-42,000. Last date: 31 Oct 2026.

DIAT SRF or JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune — a deemed university under the Department of Defence Research and Development — is looking for young scientists and engineers to join a DRDO-sponsored research project run jointly by its Electronics Engineering and Applied Physics departments. The project is building a Photonics Multi-band (0.5-30 GHz) Electronic Warfare Microwave Receiver System (PMEWRS), so the work sits right where RF engineering meets lasers and optics.

The fellowships are purely temporary project positions at the Girinagar campus in Pune. DIAT will hire Senior Research Fellows first; if it does not find a suitable SRF, the same seats go to Junior Research Fellows instead. If you hold an Electronics, Physics or Photonics degree with a first division and a valid GATE or NET score, this is a solid way into defence electronics research.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Senior Research Fellow (SRF): the first-choice hire for the project. Along with a first-division B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc or M.E./M.Tech in Electronics, Physics, Applied Physics, Optics or Photonics, you need at least two years of research, teaching or industry experience in a related field.
  • Junior Research Fellow (JRF): the fallback route when no suitable SRF is found. The degree requirement is the same, but no prior experience is asked for, and the stipend steps up in the third year of the fellowship.
  • GATE/NET status: both fellowships pay a lower stipend if you do not have a GATE or NET qualification, so mention your score clearly in the application.
  • Desirable skills for both: RF and antenna knowledge, VHDL and high-speed ADC/DAC interfacing, ultrafast fibre lasers and nonlinear optics, and simulation tools such as MATLAB, Python, COMSOL Multiphysics and Ansys Lumerical.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Tenure: The fellowship runs for three years or until the project ends, whichever comes first.
  • No absorption: Getting this fellowship gives you no right to a permanent job at DIAT.
  • PhD option: Selected fellows are encouraged to register for a PhD at DIAT through the institute's normal admission channel.
  • Medical cover: Besides the stipend, you get access to the campus MI Room only — no wider medical scheme.
  • Shortlisting: If many people apply, a screening committee may shortlist on qualifications and experience above the minimum, so list everything you have with proof.
  • Interview: It may be in person or by video call, as DIAT decides. No TA/DA is paid for either mode.
  • Joining: The selected candidate must join immediately after getting the offer letter.
