KGMU Research Officer Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow is hiring project staff for a Gates Foundation funded study titled "Post Marketing Analysis of Centchroman (Prospective Study) in Uttar Pradesh, India". The study runs under the principal investigator Prof. Soniya Nityanand, Vice Chancellor of KGMU, and it looks at how women in Uttar Pradesh actually use a non-hormonal contraceptive once it reaches them. These are purely temporary project engagements, not regular university posts. If you come from a nursing, midwifery, public health, social science or life sciences background and you are comfortable talking to patients in Hindi, this work will suit you.

Posts and Disciplines

• Research Officer (Non-Medical): the field-facing role. You sit with women attending the OPD, explain the study, take consent and run the follow-up calls. Placed at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, KGMU Lucknow and at five district women hospitals — Veerangna Awanti Bai, Veerangna Jhalkari Bai, Sitapur, Lakhimpur and Shrawasti.
• Research Co-ordinator: the senior role that keeps a site running — participant recruitment plus reporting to the principal investigator. These posts are spread across KGMU Lucknow and the same district women hospitals. A post graduate degree is the normal route in, though strong GNM or ANM candidates with family planning or hospital research experience are also considered.

Both roles are attached to the same study and the same six work sites, so you can pick the location closest to you when you apply.

Post-wise Duties

Research Officer (Non-Medical)

You will spot women attending the gynaecology OPD who may fit the study, check their reproductive and contraceptive history against the approved criteria, and explain what taking part involves. Counselling is a big part of the day — you explain every contraceptive option fairly, answer the myths people arrive with, and let the woman choose without any push toward one method. After enrolment you keep the case record forms and the follow-up schedule in order.

Research Co-ordinator

You do everything the Research Officer does, and you also carry the site's administrative load. That means monthly recruitment and follow-up reports, tracking study milestones and participant numbers, and helping the principal investigator put together progress reports and data summaries. Data quality at your site is your responsibility.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: the engagement is for one year to start with, renewable for another year if your work is found satisfactory. Both posts are co-terminus with the project — they end when the study ends.
• No claim on permanent jobs: KGMU states plainly that project staff have no right to claim permanent employment at the university later.
• Pay is consolidated: the monthly amount is a lump sum with no additional benefits layered on top.
• Language: you will be interviewing women in Hindi every day, so good spoken Hindi is treated as essential, not optional.
• Travel: no TA or DA is paid for coming to the interview.
• Already in a government job? Candidates working in government or public sector undertakings must bring a No Objection Certificate to the interview.
• Cut-off for eligibility: your age, qualification and experience are all counted up to the interview date, not the application date — so a degree or certificate you receive in between still counts.

Application Submission Notes

This is an offline application — there is no online form for these posts. Your filled application in the prescribed format goes to the HOD Office, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, King George's Medical University, Lucknow, and the office accepts papers only till 2:00 PM on the closing day.

You must also email a soft copy of the application in Word format to fogsiemoc_lko@yahoo.co.in. Both the paper set and the email are expected — an incomplete set will simply not be considered. Shortlisted candidates report for the interview at 10:00 AM at the department.

• Screen participants against the approved inclusion and exclusion criteria
• Explain study objectives, benefits and risks, and take written informed consent
• Counsel participants on every contraceptive method fairly, without bias or pressure
• Collect demographic, reproductive and clinical information using study questionnaires
• Enter data into the study database and check it for completeness and consistency
• Track participant follow-up, record side effects and adverse events, and refer cases needing clinical review
• Prepare monthly recruitment and follow-up reports for the principal investigator (Research Co-ordinator)
