SGPGIMS Project Research Scientist Recruitment 2026: Overview

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow is hiring Project Research Scientists and a Project Technical Support staff member for its Department of Neonatology. The posts belong to an ICMR-funded project that is building a compact, sterile, automated machine to prepare Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) for babies in Neonatal Intensive Care Units, and then testing it in the lab before it reaches patients.

This is a rare medical-device team inside a hospital department: one doctor, two engineers and a design technician will work together on the same prototype. The project is led by Dr. Kirti Naranje, Professor of Neonatology. If you are an engineer who wants to work on real healthcare hardware, or a doctor interested in neonatal research, this drive is worth a look.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Project Research Scientist-II (Medical): the clinical lead role for doctors. The notice prefers MD/DNB in Paediatrics or a DM/fellowship in Neonatology, plus experience in neonatal intensive care, clinical research, medical device validation or nutrition/TPN research.
  • Project Research Scientist-II (Non-Medical), Mechanical Engineering: open to mechanical, mechatronics, biomedical and production engineers. The project wants people who have done product or medical device development, CAD and 3D modelling, enclosure design, pump mounting and tubing/manifold layout, and leak or occlusion testing of prototypes.
  • Project Research Scientist-II (Non-Medical), Electronics and Computer/Software: open to electronics, ECE, electrical, instrumentation, mechatronics, computer science and IT engineers. Useful skills include embedded systems, PCB work, sensor and load-cell interfacing, motor and pump control, and writing firmware in C/C++ or Python for control logic, alarms and data logging.
  • Project Technical Support-I: a design support role for Diploma/ITI holders or design graduates in product, industrial or mechanical design. Hands-on work with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, 3D printing and rapid prototyping of enclosures, fixtures and brackets is preferred.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Tenure: The first appointment covers the first year of the grant and may be extended till the project ends, based on your performance. The post is coterminous with the project.
  • Pay: All four posts carry a consolidated monthly amount plus HRA as admissible; there are no regular-post benefits.
  • Interview date: Not fixed in the notice. Shortlisted candidates get the date and time by email.
  • Travel: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
  • Right to cancel: The Director can cancel the advertisement or the selection without giving reasons.
