CU Project Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

The University of Calcutta (CU) is hiring a Project Assistant I and a Project Assistant II for a research project in its Department of Zoology in Kolkata. The project is called Sustainable Integrated Farming Systems for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation (SIFS-CLIM), and it studies how mixed farming systems can help farms cope with and reduce climate change. The money comes from Germany — the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH) funds it through Forschungszentrum Jülich. If you hold a first-class M.Sc. in Zoology and want hands-on research work on an international project, this is a good fit.

Posts and Disciplines

• Project Assistant I: meant for a Zoology postgraduate who already has research and field experience. Pick this one if you have done field surveys or sampling work before.
• Project Assistant II: meant for a Zoology postgraduate who can handle data curation and statistical analysis. Pick this one if you are comfortable organising research data and running statistics on it.

Both posts sit in the same project team under Prof. Amlan Das, the Principal Investigator, and both carry the same consolidated monthly pay.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nature of the job: Both positions are temporary and tied to the project. You are first engaged for one year.
• Extension: Your term can be extended based on your performance, but only until the project ends.
• Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply.
• Consolidated pay: The amount is a fixed consolidated sum, so do not expect separate allowances on top of it.
