SGPGIMS Senior Resident Recruitment 2026: Overview

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow is filling Senior Resident (Hospital Services) and Junior Resident (Non-Academic) seats through its rolling walk-in system. This notice is Supplementary Seat Matrix-1, issued on 17 October 2026, and it adds seats in seven departments on top of the main seat matrix uploaded a day earlier.

These are short-term appointments of 89 days, meant to keep patient services running between the institute's regular entrance-test admissions. Posts and Disciplines

• Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology: Senior Resident seats for doctors with a postgraduate degree in Medicine or Paediatrics.
• Microbiology: Senior Resident seats spread across the SC, OBC, EWS and ST categories, for MD/DNB Microbiology holders.
• Paediatric Gastroenterology: a Senior Resident seat for paediatricians.
• Radiodiagnosis: Senior Resident seats for MD/DNB Radiodiagnosis holders.
• Medical Oncology: these seats can go to either a Senior Resident or a Junior Resident, depending on who is selected.
• Hepatology: a Junior Resident (Non-Academic) seat for MBBS doctors.
• General Hospital: a Junior Resident (Non-Academic) seat for MBBS doctors.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Each appointment runs for 89 days or until a regular appointment is made through the entrance test, whichever is earlier.
• Renewal: You can get up to two more terms (three in all, with a cooling period), based on a good performance report, your head of department's recommendation and seat availability in your category.
• Reservation: Reservation follows Uttar Pradesh Government rules, and only UP domicile holders get its benefit. Reserved-category candidates from other states are treated as unreserved.
• Seat conversion: An unfilled SC/ST seat goes to OBC and then to unreserved candidates; an unfilled OBC seat goes to unreserved candidates. If no suitable Senior Resident is found, the seat may be filled by a Junior Resident.
• Selected on another category's seat: Your appointment is not renewed after 89 days; you must face a fresh interview unless a seat in your own category opens up in the department.
• Recognised degree: Your qualification must be recognised by the National Medical Commission; degrees from departments still awaiting recognition are rejected at any stage.
• Posting and stay: You can be posted anywhere in SGPGIMS, and all residents must live on campus in the semi-furnished hostel.
• Joining: The appointment letter comes by email within 7 working days, and you must join within 7 days of receiving it or the seat goes to the waiting list. You also need to be declared fit by the institute's Medical Board.

Application Submission Notes

There is no online form. Bring the filled application form (the format is on the SGPGIMS recruitment page), your original documents and two sets of photocopies, and sign the attendance register in the office of the department you are applying to during the morning document-verification window. Write the reference number of your fee payment on the form.

Candidates cleared at verification then go to the School of Telemedicine, Second Floor, SGPGIMS, Lucknow for the afternoon walk-in interview. Check the seat matrix for your department and category before you travel.
