Indian Council of Medical Research - National Institute of Epidemiology for NCDs (ICMR-NINE) Young Professional-II Recruitment 2026 - 2 Posts
ICMR-NINE, Bengaluru (formerly ICMR-NCDIR) has invited applications for 2 Young Professional-II posts on a purely temporary, contract basis for one year. One post is in Public Policy and Evidence Translation and the other is in Scientific Communication and Media. There is no written exam — candidates are shortlisted directly for an interview based on qualification, experience, and age. ICMR-NINE works under the Department of Health Research on epidemiology and surveillance of non-communicable diseases and cancer, so this is a good opportunity for public health postgraduates and science communicators to work with a national research institute on work that shapes real health policy.

Who Can Apply?
For Young Professional-II - Public Policy & Evidence Translation:
- You need a postgraduate degree (minimum 55% marks) in Public Health, Health Policy, Epidemiology, Health Systems, Health Economics, or Public Policy from a recognized institution.
- You need at least 3 years of relevant experience after your postgraduate degree.
- Experience in NCD epidemiology, cancer control, public health surveillance, systematic reviews, or working with government health programmes is preferred.
- You should be able to turn epidemiological research into policy-relevant findings, do rapid literature reviews, and write policy briefs or background notes.
- Your work will involve preparing policy briefs, evidence summaries, and technical reports based on the institute's research findings, and helping senior policymakers with presentation material.
For Young Professional-II - Scientific Communication & Media:
- You need a master's degree (minimum 55% marks) in Science Communication, Public Health Communication, Mass Communication, Journalism, Digital Media, or Public Health.
- You need at least 3 years of relevant experience after your postgraduate degree.
- Experience with tools like Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or PowerPoint design, and managing social media for research institutions, is preferred.
- You should have strong writing and editing skills to simplify complex research findings without losing accuracy.
- Your work will involve creating multimedia content, infographics, and social media posts to share the institute's research findings with the public and with policymakers.
Age Limit
- You should be up to 35 years old for both posts.
- Age is counted as on the date of interview (25 August 2026).
- Age Relaxation: Applicable as per government rules for reserved categories.
Salary
- Both posts carry a consolidated salary of Rs. 42,000 per month (all-inclusive, no separate allowances).
- The initial appointment is for one year and may be extended based on institute requirement and your performance.
- Applicable income tax will be deducted at source before your monthly payment.
This is a purely temporary, contractual position co-terminus with the Young Professional scheme. You will not be treated as an ICMR "employee" or "officer", and you will have no claim to a regular position at ICMR or in government service. Either side can end the contract with about one month's notice, without giving a reason.
Selection Process (No Written Exam)
Selection is based on 2 steps:
- Shortlisting: Based on your qualification, experience, and age. If you have more than one eligible qualification, you can use only one of them for the selection process.
- Interview: Conducted either as a walk-in interview at ICMR-NINE, Bengaluru, or online (with prior email permission), on 25 August 2026.
Only candidates who submit supporting documents proving their qualification and experience will be considered for the online interview option. Meeting the minimum qualification and experience does not automatically guarantee selection.
