Himachal Pradesh Home Guards, Civil Defence, Fire and SDRF Department has released Advertisement No. 01/2026 for filling 700 Home Guard Volunteer posts. These posts are for General Duty, Bandmen, Drivers and Technical Trademen categories across 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh.

This is a volunteer position. You will get Rs. 977 per day, paid only when you are called on duty. You must apply for vacancies in your own district only.

Vacancies are spread across these 12 districts: Kinnaur, Shimla-2, Shimla-3, Nahan, Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu, Chamba, Dharamshala, Hamirpur, Solan, and Una.

Who Can Apply

  • General Duty and Bandmen: You need 10+2 (12th pass) from a recognised institution
  • Technical Trademen: You need Matriculation (10th pass) plus relevant ITI certificate
  • Drivers: You need a valid HMV Driving License
  • Age: 18 to 50 years as on 01-01-2026
  • Domicile: You must be a resident of Himachal Pradesh
  • You must apply for vacancies in your own district only

Physical Standards

  • GD Males (General): Height - 5 feet 6 inches, Chest - 31 to 32 inches
  • GD Males (SC/ST): Height - 5 feet 4 inches, Chest - 29 to 30 inches
  • GD Females (General): Height - 5 feet 2 inches
  • GD Females (SC/ST): Height - 5 feet

Salary

  • Daily Pay: Rs. 977 per day
  • This amount is paid only when you are called on duty
  • This is a volunteer post, not a regular government job

Selection Process (3 Stages)

  1. Physical Standard Test (PST): Your height and chest will be measured. You must meet the minimum standards to go forward.
  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): This is a qualifying test only (no marks). It includes High Jump, Long Jump, and Running. You must pass this to move to the next stage.
  3. Merit List (100 marks total):
    • Education: 30 marks
    • Written Test: 50 marks
    • NCC Certificate: 5 marks
    • NSS/Scouts and Guides: 5 marks
    • Sports Achievement: 5 marks
    • Driving License: 5 marks
    • Music Test (for Bandmen only): 5 marks
    • ITI Certificate (for Technical posts only): 15 marks

Written Test Details

The written test has 50 marks and you will get 1 hour to complete it. All questions are Objective (MCQ) type.

  • Hindi: 12 marks (12th class level)
  • English: 12 marks (12th class level)
  • Mathematics: 12 marks (10th class level)
  • Himachal Pradesh General Knowledge: 14 marks

Application Fee

Rs. 200 for all candidates (pay online only).

How to Apply

  1. First, complete your OTR (One Time Registration) at the official portal starting from 25th February 2026.
  2. After OTR, fill the Online Application (ORA) from 2nd March 2026.
  3. Upload all needed documents and your photograph.
  4. Pay the application fee of Rs. 200 online.
  5. Submit your application before 31st March 2026.
  6. Take a printout of your application for future use.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the police in maintaining law and order during festivals, elections, and public events
  • Perform guard duty at important government buildings and installations
  • Help in crowd control and traffic management when needed
  • Support disaster relief and rescue operations during natural calamities
  • Carry out patrolling duties in assigned areas as directed
  • Help in civil defence activities and fire prevention measures
  • Complete 45 days of Basic Training after selection
  • Report for duty when called by the department
  • Drive official vehicles for department use (for Driver posts)
  • Perform technical tasks like electrical work, plumbing, or tailoring (for Technical Trademen posts)
  • Play musical instruments during parades and official ceremonies (for Bandmen posts)

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

10+2 (12th pass) from a recognised institution for General Duty and Bandmen posts. Matriculation (10th pass) with relevant ITI certificate for Technical Trademen posts. Valid HMV Driving License for Driver posts.

Preferred Qualification

NCC Certificate, NSS/Scouts & Guides experience, Sports achievements at state/national level

Required Skills

Physical fitness, Good health, Knowledge of Hindi and English
