This includes both regular and backlog vacancies for men and women through the Jharkhand Kakshpal Competitive Examination 2025 (JKCE-2025). Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: You must have passed at least Matriculation (10th Class) from a board recognised by the Central or State Government.
- Domicile: Reserved category benefits are only for local residents of Jharkhand. You need a valid local resident (domicile) certificate to claim reservation.
- Home Guards: Trained Home Guard jawans registered in Jharkhand who have completed 3 years after registration and at least 6 months of active service can apply against Home Guard posts.
- Ex-Servicemen: Only ex-servicemen registered with the Sainik Welfare Directorate of Jharkhand can apply against ex-servicemen posts.
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are not eligible for these posts.
Age Limit
- The age is calculated as on 01 August 2025.
- Minimum age: 18 years for all candidates.
- Maximum age (General/EWS Male): 25 years
- Maximum age (BC-1/BC-2 Male): 27 years
- Maximum age (General/EWS/BC-1/BC-2 Female): 28 years
- Maximum age (SC/ST Male and Female): 30 years
- Age Relaxation: Home Guards get 5 years relaxation. Ex-servicemen can apply up to 45 years. Serving Assistant Police get relaxation as per their category.
Salary
- Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200 per month under Level-2 of the 7th Pay Commission.
- You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per Jharkhand Government rules.
Physical Standards
For Male Candidates:
- Height: 160 cm (155 cm for SC/ST)
- Chest (expanded): 81 cm (79 cm for SC/ST)
- Running: 1600 metres (1 mile) in 6 minutes
For Female Candidates:
- Height: 148 cm (all categories)
- Chest measurement: Not applicable
- Running: 1600 metres (1 mile) in 10 minutes

Selection Process
The selection is done in three stages:
- Physical Standard Test (Chest measurement) and Physical Efficiency Test (1 mile run): This is a qualifying stage with no marks. You must clear it to sit for the written exam.
- Written Exam (OMR Based): Held in one main exam with three papers. Each paper runs for 2 hours. Each correct answer gives 3 marks and each wrong answer cuts 1 mark (negative marking).
- Height Measurement and Medical Examination: Conducted by a medical board set up by the state government. You must pass this to be included in the merit list.
The merit list is prepared on the normalised marks of Paper-2 and Paper-3 combined. Paper-1 (language) is only qualifying.

Responsibilities
- Guard prisoners and maintain discipline inside the jail premises
- Keep watch over prison gates, walls, and barracks during assigned shifts
- Escort inmates to courts, hospitals, and other locations safely
- Search cells and inmates regularly to prevent banned items and escapes
- Report any unusual activity or security threat to senior officers
- Maintain duty registers and prepare daily reports of prison activities
- Follow prison rules, safety guidelines, and orders of senior staff

Exam Pattern
The written exam is OMR based and held in one main examination with three papers. Each paper runs for 2 hours and is held in separate shifts. Each correct answer gives 3 marks and each wrong answer cuts 1 mark (negative marking).
Paper-wise Breakdown
- Paper-1 (Language Knowledge): 120 questions — Hindi (80 questions) and English (40 questions). This paper is only qualifying. You need at least 30% combined marks to pass, and these marks are not added to your merit.
- Paper-2 (Tribal and Regional Language): 100 questions in any one chosen language (Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, Santali, Bengali, Mundari, Ho, Kharia, Kurukh, Kurmali, Khortha, Nagpuri, Panch Pargania, or Odia). You need at least 30% marks to qualify.
- Paper-3 (General Knowledge): 120 questions — General Studies (40), Jharkhand-related Knowledge (50), General Mathematics (10 at 10th level), and General Science (20). You need at least 30% marks to qualify.
Merit: The final merit list is made from the combined normalised marks of Paper-2 and Paper-3. Paper-1 marks are not counted for merit.
