NIA ASI, Head Constable and DEO Recruitment 2026: Overview

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), India's main counter-terror investigation agency under the Ministry of Home Affairs, wants serving personnel for three Group C posts: Assistant Sub-Inspector, Head Constable and Data Entry Operator. This is a deputation drive, not open recruitment. You must already hold a regular post in a central or state government, a union territory, a state police force or a central police organisation. All posts are all-India based, so you could be placed at NIA headquarters in New Delhi or at a branch office, depending on where the vacancies arise.

NIA has sent the circular to every ministry, state chief secretary and state DGP, and to the heads of BSF, CRPF, CISF, SSB, ITBP, RPF and Assam Rifles, as well as CBI, IB, R&AW, CBDT and technical bodies such as MeitY, ECIL, BECIL, TCIL, RailTel, iDEX and DRDO. If you work in any of these, your office should have the notice. Ask your establishment section to forward your name.

Posts and Disciplines

• Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI): meant for police and investigation staff. You can come in from an analogous post, or as a Head Constable with the required regular service in a state or central police organisation. You also need a graduation degree and field experience in criminal investigation, intelligence work, operations or IT management.
• Head Constable: an executive post for constabulary-level personnel. The full eligibility rules are in Annexure I(B) of the notice.
• Data Entry Operator: a technical support post. That is why the circular also went to IT bodies such as MeitY, ECIL and BECIL. Eligibility is set out in Annexure I(C).

Note: NIA says the number of posts may change depending on future vacancy positions.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Classification: General Central Service, Group C, non-gazetted.
• No withdrawal: once you apply, you cannot withdraw your candidature later.
• Feeder-grade bar: NIA's own officers in the feeder grade who are in the direct line of promotion cannot be appointed on deputation. Likewise, a deputationist cannot be considered for promotion.
• Intelligence experience: only experience gained in an intelligence agency, or in a specialised intelligence wing of a police or enforcement agency, counts for the ASI post.
• Proper channel: your department must forward your nomination, and the competent authority must countersign your bio-data.
• Closing rule: nominations must reach NIA within 60 days of the notice appearing in Employment News. NIA's recruitment page shows the closing date for this circular.
