NIA Inspector and Sub-Inspector Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Investigation Agency (NIA), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is seeking nominations for Inspector and Sub-Inspector appointments on deputation. These roles support the agency's investigation and intelligence work, with postings across India. If you already serve in government, this notice sets out the route for your parent department to nominate you.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Inspector: An operational investigation role involving case work, intelligence inputs and support to investigation teams. The post is non-gazetted and non-ministerial.
  • Sub-Inspector: A non-gazetted, non-ministerial role that combines investigation support with duties involving the security of accused persons in custody.

Post-wise Duties

Inspector

You will accompany the Chief Investigation Officer and work with teams carrying out raids, searches, seizures and witness examinations. Your work also includes protecting crime scenes, serving summons and warrants, handling court matters, and collecting, checking and analysing intelligence.

Sub-Inspector

You will support the Chief Investigation Officer in field investigations, witness work and court-related tasks. Alongside intelligence collection and checking inputs on the ground, the notice assigns this role the guarding and security of accused persons in custody.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Deputation tenure: The normal maximum is three years, including an immediately preceding deputation to another ex-cadre post in the same or another Central Government organisation or department.
  • Posting: Both roles have all-India posting liability. The NIA headquarters address is the application destination and does not limit your posting to New Delhi.
  • No withdrawal: You cannot withdraw your candidature after applying. Discuss the move and nomination arrangements with your parent department before it forwards your case.
  • Promotion channels: Departmental officers in feeder categories who are directly in line for promotion cannot be considered for deputation. Deputationists cannot be considered for appointment through promotion.
  • Inspector absorption: The annexure limits absorbed Inspectors to twenty percent of the sanctioned Inspector strength. This condition does not promise absorption to everyone appointed on deputation.
  • Government rules: Other deputation terms follow the Department of Personnel and Training order cited in the notice, as amended. The Sub-Inspector annexure also explains how corresponding pre-revised service grades are treated.
  • Vacancy changes: The advertised position totals may change with future vacancies. Check subsequent NIA communications concerning this circular.

Application Submission Notes

Your nomination must reach DIG (Adm), NIA HQ, Opposite CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003 through the proper departmental channel. You may send an advance copy to digadmin.nia@gov.in or to the same postal address while departmental forwarding is arranged.

If you are already on deputation, your parent cadre or department must forward your case. In the service-history portion, distinguish the regular post you hold from personal financial upgrades under career-progression schemes.
