NEPA Uniform Personnel Deputation Recruitment 2026: Overview

The North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA), a training institution of the Ministry of Home Affairs at Umsaw in Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi District, wants serving uniformed officers to join its training staff on deputation, transfer or absorption. The openings run from a Group B gazetted outdoor officer down to Head Constables, and every post sits inside the academy's training wing — you would teach drill, weapons, riding, band, wireless or driving to police recruits from the North Eastern States and in-service officers from across India.

This is not an open recruitment. Only officers already serving in Central or State Government, Union Territory police or the Central Armed Police Forces (and, for one post, the Armed Forces) can be considered, and your name has to reach NEPA through your own department. The notice works as a rolling advertisement, so NEPA keeps taking nominations until the posts are filled.

Posts and Disciplines

• Deputy Assistant Director (Outdoor): the only Group B gazetted post. It is open to officers from government, PSUs, universities, research institutions and autonomous bodies, and also to Junior Commissioned Officers of the Army, Navy or Air Force who retire within a year.
• Inspector (Training): a senior instructor post for Sub-Inspectors of CAPFs, State Police or UTs who have taught outdoor subjects.
• Inspector (Riding): heads the academy's riding section, so you need stable management and horse-riding experience.
• Inspector (Training of Trainers): an outdoor instructor who also helps plan the in-service courses.
• Sub-Inspector (Band): meant for band personnel, that is Assistant Sub-Inspectors (Band) or Head Constables (Band).
• Sub-Inspector (Radio Mechanic): meant for wireless and radio staff; a Head Constable (GD) with a Diploma in Radio Mechanic can also qualify.
• Head Constable (General Duty): the biggest group in this notice, open to Constables (GD).
• Head Constable (Motor Transport Mechanic): for Constables (MT Mechanic) who understand how different types of vehicles work.

Post-wise Duties

Deputy Assistant Director (Outdoor)

You will take outdoor classes such as physical training, drill and weapon training for the Basic Course and short in-service courses, and help senior officers run the academy's training programmes and admin work.

Inspector (Training)

You will supervise all instructors and Basic Course trainees in their daily routine, working under the Deputy Director (Adjutant) and taking outdoor classes yourself.

Inspector (Riding)

You will give riding training to trainees and be in overall charge of the riding section.

Inspector (Training of Trainers) and Head Constable (General Duty)

You will conduct outdoor classes in PT, weapons, drill and police operations and tactics for various courses, and help the Outdoor Officer In-charge plan and run in-service courses.

Sub-Inspector (Band)

You will command the NEPA Band and train new Constable (Band) recruits.

Sub-Inspector (Radio Mechanic)

You will work under the Inspector (Wireless) and help give practical training to trainees on wireless and audio-visual equipment.

Head Constable (Motor Transport Mechanic)

You will run motor driving training and keep the academy's government vehicles maintained and repaired.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Deputation starts at three years and can be extended under the rules; for Inspector (Training of Trainers) and Head Constable (MT Mechanic) the notice allows up to five years.
• Pay option: Once selected, you can choose between the pay of the deputation post and your basic pay in the parent cadre.
• Pay ceiling for nominees: Your department should not forward you if your regular pay scale is higher than that of the deputation post.
• Feeder-grade bar: For the Sub-Inspector and Head Constable (GD) posts, NEPA's own staff in the direct line of promotion cannot come on deputation, and deputationists cannot later seek promotion there.
• No withdrawal: Once you apply, you cannot withdraw your candidature.
• Ex-servicemen: JCOs selected for the Deputy Assistant Director post serve on deputation until their release date and on re-employment terms after that.
• Leave: Your leave follows the rules of your parent department or cadre.
• Campus life: The academy offers rent-free accommodation, medical and educational help, a CPC canteen, cooperative store, dairy, library, swimming pool and gym.

Application Submission Notes

You cannot apply on your own. Fill in the bio-data proforma attached to the notice (Annexure 9 for the Group B post, Annexure 10 for Group C posts), get it attested or countersigned, and give it to your cadre controlling authority.

Your department checks the details against your service record and forwards the nomination through proper channel to the North Eastern Police Academy, Umsaw, Meghalaya 793123.
