CBI Deputy Advisor (Banking) Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), working as the Delhi Special Police Establishment, has issued a vacancy circular from its Administration Division at CGO Complex, New Delhi for the post of Dy. Advisor (Banking) on deputation, including short-term contract. This is a General Central Service, Group 'A' Gazetted (Non-Ministerial) post, and the officers who take it become the agency's in-house banking brain in fraud cases — they are attached to CBI offices and branches across the country rather than to one desk in Delhi. Service Conditions and Caveats

• Who can come in: only serving officers from government service or from government and public sector financial institutions — the recruitment rules bar private candidates outright.
• Terms of deputation: the appointment is governed by DoPT OM No. 6/8/2009-Estt.(Pay-II) dated 17 June 2010, as amended from time to time.
• Length of the stint: the deputation or short-term contract, counting any ex-cadre post held immediately before it in the same or another Central Government organisation, shall ordinarily not exceed three years.
• No backing out: candidature cannot be withdrawn once submitted, and an officer who is selected but refuses to join is debarred from any deputation in the Government of India for the combined period of deputation and cooling off.
• Rolling consideration: this is an open vacancy circular, so CBI takes up applications quarter by quarter instead of in one batch.
• Clearances first: the application counts only if it is routed through proper channel with cadre clearance, integrity and vigilance certification and the penalty statement from your employer.
• Selection committee: the essential qualification and work experience you claim are re-assessed by the Selection Committee at the time of selection, so your employer's countersignature has to match your record.

• Scrutinise and check records seized during the investigation of bank fraud and other cases
• Examine bank rules, procedures and system practices against the irregularities committed by bank officials and give a written analysis
• Assist in the investigation of complex financial transactions and track the end use of defrauded funds
• Examine credit decisions and loan proposals of suspected companies for deviations from existing norms
• Liaise with banks and regulators such as SEBI and RBI to assess the exposure and loss of these institutions
• Collect and pass on intelligence on banking and financial sector developments relevant to CBI
• Visit bank branches with Investigating Officers to collect documents and proceed on tour during verification
• Support the training of Investigating Officers on banking matters and related economic offences
