JKSSB Junior Engineer (Civil) Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has advertised Junior Engineer (Civil) posts for two engineering departments of the Union Territory: the Jal Shakti Department and the Public Works (R&B) Department. These are regular UT-cadre posts filled by direct recruitment against indents the two departments sent to the Board in 2025 and 2026.

Selection rests entirely on your merit in the written OMR examination, so there is no interview round. If you hold a civil engineering diploma, degree or AMIE and a J&K domicile certificate, this drive is open to you.

Posts and Disciplines

• Junior Engineer (Civil), Jal Shakti Department (Item No. 266): the larger share of the posts, with the Jal Shakti Department as the appointing authority.
• Junior Engineer (Civil), Public Works (R&B) Department (Item No. 267): posts in the roads and buildings department, with Public Works (R&B) as the appointing authority.

Both items carry the same pay level, qualification and selection method. You can apply for both items, but you must mark your preference, because final allotment is made on merit-cum-preference. Reservation follows the J&K Reservation Act and Rules, with separate OM, SC, ST-1, ST-2, OBC, RBA, ALC/IB and EWS shares in each item.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Domicile: You must be a domicile of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir and hold a valid domicile certificate issued on or before the last date of online applications.
• Cut-off date for documents: Your qualification, category and domicile certificates must all be valid as on the cut-off date; certificates obtained later are not accepted.
• Category certificate format: Reserved-category certificates in any format other than the one prescribed under the J&K Reservation Rules are rejected outright. You must upload the certificate with your online form; there is no second chance to upload it.
• Ex-Servicemen: Horizontal reservation for ex-servicemen applies to this post. If you have already joined a job using the ESM quota, you cannot claim it again, and you need an affidavit sworn before a First Class Judicial Magistrate plus a Form-XIV certificate.
• Posts may change: The Board can increase or reduce the number of posts before selection ends, and the advertisement is subject to any pending court case.
• Degrees from outside J&K: If your degree is from a university outside the UT (other than a Central University), you need a Bonafide Certificate in the Board's format from that university's Controller or Registrar.
• Name spelling: Enter your name, date of birth and parents' names exactly as in your matriculation certificate; corrections are not allowed after submission.
• No TA/DA: You will not be paid travel allowance for the written test or document verification.
• PwBD candidates: You can use your own scribe and/or 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour with the Annexure-B medical certificate and the Annexure-C undertaking.

Application Submission Notes

Applications are online only. The Board will publish the portal details on jkssb.nic.in before the form opens. Do not send a hard copy of your form to the Board by hand, post or email; keep a printout and bring it to document verification.

In-service candidates must also send the printout, with the signed and stamped certificate at the end of the form, through their Head of Department, who forwards it to the Secretary, JKSSB by the last date of document verification. Mention your in-service status in the online form as well.
