JKSSB Junior Engineer (Mechanical) Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) is filling Junior Engineer (Mechanical) posts in the Public Works (Roads and Buildings) Department of the Union Territory. The board received this indent from the department in March 2026, and the posts belong to the UT cadre, so you can be posted anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir. Selection is purely on the marks you score in the written OMR test — there is no interview. If you hold a mechanical engineering diploma or degree and a J&K domicile certificate, this is a direct-recruitment opening worth your time.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Domicile: only domiciles of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir can apply, and your domicile certificate must be issued on or before the cut-off date.
• Cut-off date for documents: your qualification, category and domicile certificates must all be valid on the last date of the online application; nothing obtained later is accepted.
• Category certificate upload: reserved-category candidates must upload the certificate with the online form; there is no second chance to upload it, and certificates in a non-prescribed format are rejected.
• Ex-servicemen: horizontal reservation can be used only once; you must give an affidavit sworn before a 1st Class Judicial Magistrate and a Form-XIV certificate.
• Bonafide certificate: if your degree is from a university outside J&K (other than a Central University), you need a bonafide certificate from its Controller or Registrar.
• Posts may change: the number of posts can go up or down before the selection ends, and the notice is subject to any pending court case.
• One form per item: if you submit more than one application for Item No. 265, only the latest counts; appearing twice in the exam leads to cancellation and debarment.
• No TA/DA: you bear your own travel cost for the written test and document verification.

Application Submission Notes

Applications are online only; JKSSB will publish the portal link and filling instructions separately on jkssb.nic.in. Do not post or hand in a hard copy — keep the printout for document verification. If you are already in government service, also send the printout with the signed and stamped certificate through your Head of Department, who forwards it to the board before document verification ends.

Candidates with benchmark disabilities can use their own scribe and/or get 20 minutes extra per hour, using the medical certificate (Annexure-B) and the scribe undertaking (Annexure-C) attached to the notice.
