SER Sports Quota Recruitment 2026: Overview

South Eastern Railway (SER), through its Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) at Garden Reach, Kolkata, is hiring sportspersons under its open-advertisement Sports Quota for 2026-27. These are regular railway jobs in Group C (Levels 2 to 5) and Group D (Level 1), and your sports record carries most of the weight — there is no written exam, only sports trials and certificate checks. Your medals and rankings must have been earned on or after 1 April 2024, so this drive suits players who are competing actively right now.

Posts and Disciplines

Each opening is tied to a specific sport and playing position, grouped by pay level. You apply for the discipline that matches your own achievements.

Group C, Level 4/5

• Athletics (Men): 200 metres and High Jump; a gold at the Open National, Inter State or Asian Senior Championships also qualifies.
• Chess (Men): individual; a Grandmaster title is also accepted.
• Hockey (Women): forward position.
• Table Tennis (Women): individual; a current senior singles All India ranking in the top 8 is also accepted.

Group C, Level 2/3

• Athletics (Men): 200 metres, High Jump, 20 km Race Walking and Cross Country.
• Archery (Men and Women): compound event; All India Inter University medals and Archery Association of India events count.
• Body Building (Men): 65 kg; certificates from the Indian Body Builders Federation are not accepted, but AIU and international federation certificates are.
• Bridge (Men): individual.
• Cycling (Men): Individual Road Race, Individual Pursuit and Points Race (track).
• Gymnastics (Women): artistic (WAG).
• Hockey: a forward for the women's side and a defender for the men's side; events recognised by Hockey India count.
• Rifle Shooting (Women): 3 Position; only individual results at the National Shooting Championship count.

Group D, Level 1

• Team sports: Ball Badminton (Men), Cricket (Men — middle-order batsman and fast bowler), Football (Men — side back and stopper), Kabaddi (Men and Women), Kho Kho (Men), Volleyball (Men and Women) and Water Polo (Men — centre forward).
• Individual sports: Golf (Men) and Weightlifting (Men — 65 kg and 71 kg).

The Group D posts can be any Level-1 post in any SER unit listed in Annexure-A of Railway Board letter RBE No. 79/2026.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• No community reservation: None of the posts are reserved for SC, ST, OBC or EWS candidates. Selection is on overall merit in each discipline, but you should still upload your community certificate.
• Recognised events only: The championship must have been held under a federation recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MoYAS) at that time, and the closing day of the event is the date that counts.
• Volleyball window: Volleyball Federation of India certificates count only for events between 29 October 2025 and 21 April 2026, when its interim body held government recognition. AIU and international federation certificates remain valid.
• Higher norms, lower posts: If you meet the norms for a higher level, you can also be picked for a lower one. Later promotion to the higher grade depends on achievements after you join the railway.
• Qualification in hand: You must already hold the required qualification; candidates still waiting for final exam results cannot apply, and there is no relaxation in the minimum education.
• Service bond: Selected candidates sign a bond to serve the railway for five years.
• Posting: Anywhere on South Eastern Railway, after training and pre-appointment formalities are complete.
• Clerk-cum-typist: If you are appointed to this post, you must reach 30 wpm in English or 25 wpm in Hindi typing within four years; until then the appointment stays provisional.
• Serving employees: Attach a No-Objection Certificate from your current employer.
• Trial logistics: No TA/DA or accommodation is given. Bring your own kit and be ready to stay 2-3 days at your own cost. SC/ST candidates get free second-class rail travel to the trials.

Application Submission Notes

The form goes live on the RRC SER website (www.rrcser.co.in) under the link "Online/E-Application for Sports Quota (OA) 2026-27". Only one application per candidate is allowed, and you must name your sports discipline in it, or the form can be rejected. Keep two printouts of the submitted form.

Make sure your name, father's name, community and date of birth match your Matriculation certificate exactly. RRC sends every update only by SMS and email, and it will not change your mobile number or email later, so use ones you will keep active.

On the trial day, carry the originals of your birth proof, educational certificates, sports certificates and photo ID along with the e-call letter, plus two self-attested copies of everything you uploaded.
