Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre (GBRC), under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat, has released a notification for 27 posts across multiple research projects. These include Project Research Scientist II, Project Scientist II, Research Associate, Project Associate I & II, Junior Research Fellow, Data Entry Operator and Lab Technician. All posts are purely temporary and on a contract basis for an initial period of 11 months, extendable based on performance and project needs. This is a great chance for biotech and life science graduates and Ph.D. holders to work on cutting-edge projects like AMR surveillance, sport genomics, tribal genomics and vaccine development.

The posts are spread across different research projects such as AMR & One Health, Sport Genomics, Dairy Cattle Genomics, Tribal Genomics, INSACOG wastewater surveillance, genome editing and microbial repository maintenance.

Who Can Apply?

Project Research Scientist II / Project Scientist II

• A Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in science, OR a Master's degree in engineering/technology with 3 years of research and development experience.
• For some projects, a First Class Post Graduate degree (including integrated PG) with three years of experience or a Ph.D. is accepted.
• For Engineering/IT/CS posts: a First Class 4-year Bachelor's degree with three years of experience.

Research Associate (RA)

• Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics, Life Sciences or Molecular Biology, OR
• 3 years of research experience after M.V.Sc / M.Tech with at least 1 SCI journal paper, OR
• M.Sc with 3 years of research experience and at least one SCI journal paper.

Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

• Postgraduate degree in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Microbiology or Life Sciences with NET qualification, or a graduate degree in professional courses with NET, OR
• A postgraduate degree in the above subjects without NET (with a lower fellowship amount).

Project Associate I / II

• Postgraduate or 4-year Bachelor's degree in Natural/Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology, Engineering, Technology, Medicine, BVSc, B.Pharm or equivalent. NET/GATE qualification gives a higher fellowship.

Data Entry Operator (DEO)

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Application, IT or Computer Science from a reputed institute or university.

Lab Technician (LT)

• Bachelor's degree in science OR a 3-year Diploma in Engineering & Technology.

Age Limit

• Maximum age 40 years for Project Research Scientist II, Project Scientist II and Research Associate.
• Maximum age 35 years for Project Associate I & II, JRF, Data Entry Operator and Lab Technician.
• Age is counted as on the last day of application as per the advertisement.

Salary

• Project Scientist II / Project Research Scientist II: Rs. 67,000 per month + HRA
• Research Associate (RA): Rs. 47,000 to Rs. 58,000 per month + HRA depending on qualification (RA-I/II/III levels)
• Junior Research Fellow (JRF): Rs. 31,000 per month + HRA (with NET) or Rs. 23,213 per month (without NET)
• Project Associate I: Rs. 37,000 per month + HRA (with NET/GATE) or Rs. 30,000 + HRA (without)
• Project Associate II: Rs. 35,000 per month + HRA (with NET/GATE) or Rs. 28,000 + HRA (without)
• Data Entry Operator: Rs. 31,000 per month (consolidated)
• Lab Technician: Rs. 27,000 per month + 24% HRA

• Project Research Scientist II / Project Scientist II / Research Associate: Rs. 250
• Project Associate I & II / Data Entry Operator / Lab Technician: Rs. 150

Selection Process

Selection is based on:

1. Screening of Applications: Candidates are shortlisted based on qualification and experience as per each project's requirement.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.

There is no separate written exam — selection is through application screening and interview.
