CSIR-CSMCRI Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Overview

CSIR-Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSIR-CSMCRI), a laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, is taking on Apprentice Trainees at its campus on G B Marg, Bhavnagar, Gujarat. This is training under the Apprentices Act, 1961, not a regular job — you learn your trade on the job inside a working research institute. The drive covers twelve ITI trades and three engineering branches at diploma and degree level, so it suits recent ITI, polytechnic and engineering pass-outs who have never done an apprenticeship before.

Posts and Disciplines

The seats are split between two training authorities, and the group you fall in decides which apprenticeship portal you register on.

ITI Trade Apprentices (under RDSDE, Gandhinagar)

• Workshop trades: Fitter, Turner, Machinist, Welder and Carpenter — hands-on work in the institute's mechanical and maintenance workshops.
• Electrical and electronic trades: Electrician, Electronic Mechanic and Instrument Mechanic — useful if you want to work around lab instruments and plant equipment.
• Building services trades: Plumber, Mechanic (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning) and Draughtsman (Civil).
• COPA (Computer Operator and Programming Assistant): the largest single trade in this drive, for computer and office work.

Diploma and Graduate Apprentices (under BOAT, Mumbai)

• Mechanical Engineering: seats for both diploma holders and degree holders.
• Civil Engineering: seats for both diploma holders and degree holders.
• Electrical Engineering: seats for both diploma holders and degree holders.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Recent pass-outs only: you must have passed your ITI, diploma or degree in the concerned trade within the last three years.
• First apprenticeship only: if you have already done apprenticeship training anywhere, you cannot apply.
• Portal registration is compulsory: ITI trade candidates register on the Apprenticeship India portal, and diploma or degree candidates register on the NATS (BOAT) portal. Applications from candidates not registered on the right portal will not be considered.
• Shortlisting: the institute screens the forms using its own criteria, and only shortlisted candidates are called for an interview.
• Interview call: the date and time reach you by speed post or e-mail, so give an address and inbox you check regularly.
• Incomplete forms: a form without your full postal address, e-mail ID and mobile number is treated as incomplete, and you will not be called for interview even if you are otherwise eligible.

Application Submission Notes

This is an offline application. Download the prescribed form from the institute's temporary-positions page, or collect it in person from the Recruitment Cell, CSIR-CSMCRI, G B Marg, Bhavnagar 364002 during office hours, and submit it at the same Recruitment Cell.

• Fill it yourself: the form must be completed in block letters in your own handwriting.
• Photo and signature: paste a recent signed passport-size photograph in the top right corner and sign where marked.
• Portal printout: attach the printout of your profile registration on the apprenticeship portal along with your self-attested certificates.
