About This Job

NITRD Specialist and Medical Officer Recruitment 2026: Overview

The National Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases (NITRD), an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is hiring doctors for its campus on Sri Aurobindo Marg, near Qutub Minar, New Delhi. The drive covers three Specialist Grade-II streams and the Medical Officer cadre, all of them Group-A posts.

Most of the openings sit in TB and chest medicine, with thoracic surgery and anaesthesia posts alongside. This is a regular recruitment by post, not a walk-in — you send a filled-in proforma with your documents and the institute shortlists from there.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Specialist Grade-II (TB and Respiratory Diseases): for chest physicians with an MD in TB and Respiratory Diseases or a Diploma in TB and Chest Diseases; one of the three posts is reserved for SC candidates.
  • Specialist Grade-II (Thoracic Surgery): for surgeons with an M.Ch. in Thoracic or Cardio-Thoracic Surgery on top of MS/MD; if no M.Ch. candidate turns up, an MS (Surgery) with thoracic surgery experience will also be considered. Reserved for SC.
  • Specialist Grade-II (Anesthesia): for anaesthetists with an MD or PG Diploma in Anesthesiology. Reserved for OBC.
  • Medical Officer: for MBBS doctors registered with a State or Central Medical Council; a PG qualification in chest and TB diseases or work in the TB Control Programme gives you an edge. One post is unreserved and one is for OBC.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Medical recognition: Your medical qualifications must be recognised by the Medical Council of India, and Indian PG degrees must appear in the schedules of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956.
  • US board holders: If you hold a US speciality board qualification, you must have completed all requirements of that board.
  • Government employees: Send your form through proper channel or attach a No Objection Certificate from your current employer.
  • Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee a call; NITRD may set its own criteria for calling candidates to a written test or interview.
  • Relaxed qualifications for MO: The Medical Officer qualifications can be relaxed by the competent authority for candidates who are otherwise well qualified.
  • Post count may change: The number of posts can go up or down, and the institute may choose not to fill them at all.

Application Submission Notes

Fill the application on the institute's prescribed proforma, attach self-attested copies of your certificates and a self-attested passport-size photo, and add the fee as a Demand Draft in favour of "Director, National Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases", payable at New Delhi.

Post it to The Director, National Institute of TB and Respiratory Diseases, Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi-110030. It must reach the office by 3:30 pm on the closing day; late, incomplete or wrong-format applications are rejected.
