About This Job

CSB-ISTR JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview
The Institute for Silkworm Seed Technology Research (ISTR), part of the National Silkworm Seed Organization (NSSO) of the Central Silk Board (CSB) under the Ministry of Textiles, is hiring Junior Research Fellows for two new CSB-funded research projects at its campus in Kodathi, Bengaluru. Both projects start in September 2026 and pair ISTR with outside partners: one with the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bangalore, the other with the seed centres at Hosur and ICAR-NMRI, Hyderabad.
Selection is through a walk-in interview, and fellows who hold NET or GATE get a higher stipend than those who do not. These are project positions, not permanent CSB jobs. If you hold an M.Sc. in sericulture, zoology, entomology, food science or a related life science, this drive is aimed at you.
Posts and Disciplines
- JRF, Organic Mulberry and Seri-voltaic Project: a four-year project (September 2026 to August 2030) building an organic mulberry package for the bivoltine seed crop and setting up a seri-voltaic (solar panel) system for sustainable mulberry farming, run with UAS Bangalore. It suits M.Sc. holders in Sericulture, Agronomy, Entomology, Zoology and similar life sciences.
- JRF, Silkworm Pupae Processing Project: a two-year project (September 2026 to August 2028) on turning silkworm pupae into food products and using silkworm eggs and moths for pet nutrition, run with ESSPC Hosur, SSPC Hosur and ICAR-NMRI Hyderabad. It suits M.Sc. holders in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology, Biology, Food Science or Sericulture.
Post-wise Duties
JRF, Organic Mulberry and Seri-voltaic Project
You will collect samples from the field, help with lab experiments and bioassays, and look after the installation and monitoring of solar panels. You will also keep a careful record of how the seri-voltaic system performs.
JRF, Silkworm Pupae Processing Project
You will collect samples, help in laboratory experiments and bioassay work, and support the rest of the project work as the team needs it.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Tenure: The positions are purely temporary and contractual, and they end with the project. You cannot claim any other CSB post afterwards.
- Two-tier stipend: Fellows with NET or GATE are paid more, and the stipend steps up in the third year of the project.
- Final-semester proof: Only candidates with a provisional or degree certificate and mark sheets for every semester, including the final one, can attend.
- Working candidates: If you have a job now, bring a No Objection Certificate from your employer.
- No TA/DA: You will not be paid travel costs, and canvassing in any form cancels your candidature.
- Final say: The Director, NSSO has the final word on every matter in this selection.
Application Submission Notes
CSB will not accept applications by post, e-mail or courier. Walk in to ISTR, Carmelaram Post, Kodathi, Bengaluru 560035, where interviews start at 9.30 am. Bring your original documents for verification along with the photocopies and photo listed in the documents section, and note down a working e-mail ID and mobile number to give at the interview.
