UPPSC is hiring for around 500 PCS posts through the Combined State / Upper Subordinate Services Examination 2026 (Advt. No. A-1/E-1/2026). If you are a graduate in any stream, you can apply online for top Group A and Group B posts like Deputy Collector (SDM), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Block Development Officer (BDO). Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) PCS Recruitment 2026 - 500 Posts
The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has released the notification for the Combined State / Upper Subordinate Services (PCS) Examination 2026 to fill about 500 vacancies across roughly 36 administrative, police and technical services in the Uttar Pradesh government. This is the biggest gateway to becoming an SDM or DSP in UP. Any graduate aged 21 to 40 can apply after completing the One-Time Registration (OTR). The number of vacancies may change as per government requirement.

The PCS 2026 exam fills around 500 vacancies across many Group A and Group B services, including:

These posts are spread across the revenue, police, transport, commercial tax, education, cooperative and food safety departments of Uttar Pradesh. Some are Group A (gazetted officer) posts and others are Group B posts. Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: You must hold a Bachelor's Degree in any stream from a recognized university. Some posts need a specific degree - check the notification for post-wise requirements.
- Registration: You must complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) before filling the form.
- Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and some police posts have additional physical standards (height, chest and physical test) as given in the notification.
- Domicile: Candidates from any state can apply for the general merit posts, but reservation benefits and age relaxation are only for candidates who belong to Uttar Pradesh.
Age Limit
- You must be between 21 and 40 years old as on 1 July 2026.
- Age Relaxation: SC / ST / OBC / EWS candidates of Uttar Pradesh get 5 years (up to 45 years).
- Persons with Disability (PwBD) get up to 15 years, and Ex-servicemen and other special categories get relaxation as per UP government rules.
Salary
- Main posts like Deputy Collector (SDM) and DSP get a basic pay of Rs. 56,100 per month (Pay Level 10).
- The in-hand salary works out to around Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 95,000 per month after adding Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and other allowances.
- Pay levels vary by post (from Level 7 upwards), so the exact salary depends on the service you join.

Selection Process
The selection is done in three successive stages:
- Preliminary Examination: Two objective (MCQ) papers held on the same day - General Studies Paper I (counts for merit) and General Studies Paper II / CSAT (only qualifying). There is one-third (1/3) negative marking for each wrong answer. This stage is only a screening test to shortlist you for the Mains.
- Main Examination: A descriptive (written) exam that tests your in-depth knowledge and writing skills. Only candidates who clear the Prelims can sit for the Mains, and the marks you score here count towards the final merit.
- Interview (Personality Test): Candidates who clear the Main Exam face a board that checks your general awareness, decision-making and suitability for administrative work. The final merit list is based on the Main Exam and Interview marks together.
Document verification and a medical examination are done before final appointment.

Responsibilities
- Manage revenue administration, land records and public grievances as a Deputy Collector (SDM)
- Maintain law and order and lead police investigations as a Deputy Superintendent of Police
- Run rural development schemes and block-level offices as a Block Development Officer
- Implement state government policies and welfare programmes in the assigned area
- Coordinate with departments during elections, disasters and public events
- Assess and collect taxes and check compliance (for revenue and tax posts)
- Supervise subordinate staff and submit reports to senior officers

Exam Pattern
The Preliminary Examination has two objective (MCQ) papers held on the same day:
- General Studies Paper I: 200 marks, 150 questions, 2 hours - counts for merit
- General Studies Paper II (CSAT): 200 marks, 100 questions, 2 hours - qualifying only (you need 33% to pass)
Negative Marking: One-third (1/3) of the marks for a question are deducted for every wrong answer.
Candidates who clear the Prelims take the Main Examination (descriptive), followed by the Interview (Personality Test). The final merit is based on the Main Exam and Interview together.
