HPPSC Agriculture Development Officer Recruitment 2026: Overview
Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) is filling Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) Group-A posts in the Department of Agriculture, Himachal Pradesh under Advertisement No. 63/9-2026. Every post in this drive is a backlog post reserved for Wards of Ex-Servicemen — so this is a targeted chance for the dependent sons, daughters and wives of Himachal ex-servicemen who hold agriculture degrees.
Selected candidates join as Job Trainees on a fixed monthly amount, under the State Government's job-trainee scheme notified by the Department of Personnel on 19 July 2025. If you hold a B.Sc. (Agriculture) and an M.Sc. (Agriculture) and want to work with the state agriculture department, this one is worth a close look.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Wards of Ex-Servicemen only: The posts are meant for dependent sons, daughters and wives of Ex-Servicemen of Himachal Pradesh. Pick the Ward of Ex-Servicemen category code in your form, not the Ex-Servicemen code — HPPSC warns that choosing the wrong code is a common reason for rejection.
- Proof of ward status: You need a Dependent Certificate from the competent authority and a recent sworn affidavit saying nobody in your family has already got a job against a post reserved for ex-servicemen in any government, PSU, bank or autonomous body.
- Daughters of ex-servicemen: Unmarried daughters give an undertaking on the personality test day that they are unmarried and dependent on their father. Married daughters are admitted provisionally on a provisional Ward of Ex-Servicemen certificate.
- Himachal residents for SC and OBC seats: Reserved seats go only to bonafide residents of Himachal Pradesh. SC, ST or OBC candidates from other states are treated as unreserved and get no age relaxation.
- Job-trainee terms: Your engagement follows the State's scheme for job trainees on a fixed amount and any later orders issued under it.
- Government employees: If you are in regular government service, tell your Head of Office in writing that you have applied and give an undertaking to that effect. You must show an NOC from your employer before document verification and the personality test. Contract, casual, ad hoc and daily-rated workers do not need an NOC.
- Posts may change: HPPSC says the number of posts filled through this test can increase or decrease.
- No re-evaluation: Re-checking of the written papers is not allowed, and the Commission decides all eligibility questions.
- Unfair means law: The exam falls under the Himachal Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2025. Cheating, impersonation or fake documents can lead to a ban of up to 15 years and criminal action.
- Disqualification: You cannot sit the exam if you were dismissed from earlier government service, convicted of an offence involving moral turpitude, or are an undischarged insolvent.
- Court jurisdiction: Any dispute goes to the courts at Shimla.
Application Submission Notes
You can apply only online, through HPPSC's One Time Registration (OTR) portal. Once you register and log in, live advertisements show on your dashboard — choose Advertisement No. 63/9-2026 there. Applications sent any other way are rejected.
Upload clear, readable scans of every document before you submit. You sign a declaration that you will not object if your form is rejected because a scan is unreadable. A live photograph is captured when you submit and matched with your face at the exam hall through face authentication. After submission you cannot edit the form, except for a category change under HPPSC's procedure rules.

Exam Pattern
The written stage has two papers held on the same day in morning and evening sessions, followed by a Personality Test. If there are six or fewer eligible candidates per post, HPPSC may call everyone straight to the Personality Test.
Paper-I: Objective Screening Test
A Computer Based Test (CBT) or offline OMR test of 100 marks. You will get 1 hour to finish it.
- General Knowledge of Himachal Pradesh: 30 marks
- General Knowledge of National and International Affairs: 30 marks
- Knowledge of Hindi Language: 20 marks
- Knowledge of English Language: 20 marks
Negative Marking: 0.25 of the marks for the question is cut for each wrong answer, for marking more than one option, and for leaving a question blank. Each question has options A to D plus option E — mark E if you do not want to answer and avoid the penalty.
Paper-I is for screening only. If you score zero or negative marks in Paper-I, you are out of the merit list.
Paper-II: Descriptive Subject Aptitude Test (SAT)
A written subject paper of 120 marks. You will get 3 hours. The syllabus is on the HPPSC website. You need at least 45% (general) or 40% (reserved categories) to qualify for the Personality Test.
Personality Test
Held only at the HPPSC office in Shimla, for 30 marks. The pass mark is 12 marks (40%) for general and 9 marks (30%) for reserved categories.
Final Merit: Your SAT marks (120) plus Personality Test marks (30). If eligible candidates are fewer than 20 times the posts, you only take Paper-II and the Personality Test.
Exam Language: Bilingual papers — if the Hindi and English versions differ, the English version counts.
Exam Type: Paper-I objective (MCQ), Paper-II descriptive
