WBPSC Sub-Surveyor Recruitment 2026: Overview

West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) is filling Sub-Surveyor posts in the Directorate of Land Records & Surveys, which works under the state's Department of Land & Land Reforms and Refugee Relief & Rehabilitation. This detailed advertisement follows the indicative Advertisement No. 22/2024 that the Commission put out on 31 December 2024, and the posts are permanent. The posts sit in the directorate that looks after the state's land records and surveys, so this drive is a strong chance for anyone trained in surveying who wants a regular state government job in West Bengal.

There are two ways in: a diploma in survey engineering, or an ITI Surveyor course backed by hands-on work with DGPS or Electronic Total Station equipment on land-records mapping. ITI holders should check that their employer was a Government-empanelled agency or a survey company recognised under the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme, because only that experience counts.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Bengali is essential: You must be able to read, write and speak Bengali. This is not compulsory if your mother tongue is Nepali, and a poor showing in the Bengali test can get your candidature cancelled.
  • Tie-break: If two candidates have equal Paper-II marks, the older candidate ranks higher.
  • Reservation for West Bengal only: SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates from other states can apply only as General candidates, and get no reservation, age relaxation or fee exemption.
  • Certificates by the closing date: Every category certificate (EWS, SC, ST, OBC-NCL, MSP, Ex-Serviceman, PwBD) must be issued by a West Bengal competent authority and obtained before applications close. Claims cannot be added after final submission.
  • Renewed certificates: OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) and EWS candidates must show renewed or revalidated certificates before the exam and again at appointment.
  • Age proof: Only the date of birth in your Madhyamik or equivalent certificate is accepted.
  • Experience: Experience counts only if gained in full-time work in the relevant field before the closing date, backed by a certificate showing duration and duties.
  • One form only: Sending more than one application cancels your candidature, even if you have already been admitted to the exam.
  • PwBD support: Candidates with a writing limitation can use a scribe and get 20 minutes extra per hour with a valid Appendix-I certificate.

Application Submission Notes

Apply online only on the Commission's website at psc.wb.gov.in; the fee is also paid online. During the edit window from 11 to 16 November 2026, you can log in once and correct some fields of your form. If you need to change your address, update it in the Profile section first and then use the Edit option. Take a printout of the form to spot mistakes before the edit window ends.

Carry the same photo ID you entered in the form (Madhyamik certificate with photo, passport, PAN, voter ID, driving licence, Aadhaar or another government ID) in original to the exam venue. Mobile phones, Bluetooth devices and smart watches are not allowed inside.
