TGPSC MPSO and ASO Recruitment 2026: Overview

Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) is filling Mandal Planning and Statistical Officer / Assistant Statistical Officer (MPSO/ASO) posts in the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Government of Telangana. These are regular state government posts under General Recruitment Notification No. 07/G/ES/2026, organised as a zonal cadre across all seven zones of the state. A May 2026 government order has relaxed the upper age limit for this drive, so many candidates who crossed the old limit in earlier cycles can apply again.

If you studied Statistics in your degree – as a main subject, or as a paper alongside Maths, Economics, Commerce or Computer Science – this recruitment is built for you. Selection rests on marks in a two-paper objective exam, and the Commission can hold it either on OMR sheets or as a computer-based test. If the test runs in several sessions, scores are normalised and results are announced on a percentile basis.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Local reservation: 95% of the posts in each zone are reserved for local candidates under G.O.Ms.No.124 of 2018. Your local status depends on where you studied (or lived) for four consecutive years up to your qualifying exam.
• Seven zones: Kaleshwaram, Basara, Rajanna, Bhadradri, Yadadri, Charminar and Jogulamba. Zone VI Charminar (Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Ranga Reddy, Sanga Reddy and Vikarabad) has the largest share of posts.
• Posting: You must be willing to serve anywhere in Telangana State.
• Other-state applicants: You can apply, but you will not get any reservation benefit. Community, EWS and non-creamy layer certificates must come from Telangana revenue authorities.
• Distance degrees: An open or distance-mode degree counts only if it is recognised by UGC / AICTE / Distance Education Bureau.
• Result declared: Your degree result must be declared by the notification date; a written but undeclared exam does not count.
• No waiting list: Only vacancies notified before the exam are filled. Unfilled and non-joining posts carry forward to the next recruitment.
• Government employees: Tell your Head of Office in writing that you applied, and submit a No Objection Certificate when the Commission asks.
• Medical fitness: Appointment depends on being found medically fit.
• Tie-breaking: If marks are equal, Telangana-local candidates rank first, then the older candidate, then marks in the Statistics paper.

Application Submission Notes

You apply only online on the Commission's website, and you first need a TGPSC ID from One Time Registration (OTR). OTR alone is not an application – you must still submit the form for this notification and download the PDF copy after paying the fee.
