MPSC Group B Combined Preliminary Examination 2026 — 552 Posts
Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has released Advertisement No. 011/2026 for 552 posts under the Group B (Non-Gazetted) Services Combined Preliminary Examination 2026. This is a combined exam that covers three popular posts — PSI (310 posts), STI (236 posts), and ASO (6 posts). The preliminary exam is scheduled for 14 June 2026 across 37 district centres in Maharashtra. Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: You need a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized statutory university (or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Government).
- Final Year Students: If you are appearing for the final year exam, you can also apply.

- Domicile: Maharashtra domicile is required for reserved category posts.
Additional Requirement for PSI Post
- You must meet the physical standards (height, chest measurements).
- You must be physically fit and able to clear the Physical Endurance Test.

Salary
- Assistant Section Officer (ASO): Pay Band S-16 — Rs. 48,900 to Rs. 1,42,400 per month
- State Tax Inspector (STI): Pay Band S-14 — Rs. 38,600 to Rs. 1,22,800 per month
- Police Sub-Inspector (PSI): Pay Band S-14 — Rs. 38,600 to Rs. 1,22,800 per month
- Plus DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Maharashtra Government rules.
Physical Standards (For PSI Post Only)
For Male Candidates
- Height: minimum 165 cm
- Chest: minimum 79 cm (unexpanded) with minimum 5 cm expansion
For Female Candidates
- Height: minimum 157 cm

Selection Process
The selection will be done in multiple stages:
- Combined Preliminary Examination (Prelims): Common exam for all three posts — 100 MCQs for 100 marks in 1 hour. Objective type. Negative marking of 1/4 mark for each wrong answer. This is a screening test — marks are not counted in the final merit.
- Main Examination (Mains): Candidates who clear Prelims appear for the Mains Exam — 400 marks total. Separate Mains for ASO/STI and PSI posts.
- Physical Endurance Test (for PSI only): 100 marks. You must score at least 60 marks out of 100 to qualify. Events include running, long jump, pull-ups, and shot put.
- Interview (for PSI only): Personality test for PSI candidates who clear the physical test.
- Document Verification: Original documents checked before final appointment.
For ASO and STI posts, final selection is based on Mains marks only. For PSI, final merit includes Mains + Physical Test marks.

- Handle administrative and clerical duties in government departments (ASO)
- Prepare official correspondence, reports, and file notes for section heads
- Inspect business establishments for tax compliance and collect state tax dues (STI)
- Maintain law and order, prevent crime, and respond to emergency situations (PSI)
- Register FIRs, assist in criminal investigations, and patrol assigned areas
- Manage traffic control and crowd management during public events
- Prepare daily duty reports, maintain station records, and supervise subordinate staff
- Assist senior officers in policy implementation and public service delivery

Exam Pattern
The Combined Preliminary Examination is the first stage, common to all three posts (ASO, STI, PSI). It has 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) for 100 marks. You get 1 hour to complete it.
Subject-wise Breakdown (Prelims)
- Current Affairs: National, international, and Maharashtra-specific
- History: Modern India with special focus on Maharashtra
- Geography: Maharashtra geography, world geography, climate, rivers, industries
- Economy: Indian economy, national income, agriculture, industry, banking, budget
- Political Science: Indian polity and governance
- General Science: Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Hygiene
- Arithmetic: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, fractions
- Intelligence Test: Logical thinking, speed, and accuracy-based questions
Negative Marking: 1/4 of the assigned marks deducted for each wrong answer.
Exam Type: Objective (MCQ), OMR-based
Exam Language: Marathi and English
Note: The Prelims is only a screening test. Prelims marks are NOT counted in the final merit. You must clear the Prelims cutoff to appear for the Main Examination.
Main Examination
