Maharashtra SCAC Director Recruitment 2026: Overview
The Environment and Climate Change Department, Government of Maharashtra is looking for a senior state officer to lead its State Climate Action Cell (SCAC) as Director. The post is filled on deputation and is open only to officers already in state government service.
The department was renamed from the Environment Department to underline its climate change role. Besides enforcing environmental laws, it now carries out the state's climate-friendly policy, protects natural water sources to keep biodiversity in balance, and works towards sustainable development goals. The SCAC was set up in August 2023 to put that climate policy into practice at state level, and the Director heads the cell from Mumbai.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Change in eligibility: The post was earlier meant for Revenue cadre Deputy Collectors or higher officers on deputation. A government resolution of October 2026 widened it to officers of at least Mantralaya Deputy Secretary rank, or with an equivalent pay band and grade pay, from any state service.
- Tenure: The deputation starts at three years and can be extended under the terms of the government resolution.
- Who pays: Your pay and allowances come out of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) funds.
- Deputation limits: The service details form checks that your total time on deputation stays within 10 years and that three years have passed since you returned from any earlier deputation.
- Disclosure: You must state whether any departmental inquiry, corruption case or criminal case is pending or proposed against you.
- Rules that apply: The terms in the General Administration Department's resolutions of 17 December 2016 and 16 February 2018 govern this deputation.
