IBPS Server Administrator and Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), the autonomous body behind the big bank recruitment exams for POs, clerks and Regional Rural Banks, is now hiring for its own office in Mumbai. Under advertisement IBPS/2026-27/06, it wants a Server Administrator (Grade D), Assistants (Grade B) and Programming Assistants (Grade B) on a regular, permanent basis. These are not bank jobs. You would work inside IBPS itself, looking after its IT systems and the result-processing work behind its exams.

Selected candidates work only in Mumbai, at IBPS House in Kandivali (East). IBPS also keeps a wait list for six months to fill extra need-based openings, so a good performance can still pay off if you miss the first round of offers.

Posts and Disciplines

• Server Administrator (Grade D): the senior technical post, meant for B.E./B.Tech graduates in Electronics, Computer Science or IT who already run Linux servers and networks in their current job.
• Assistant (Grade B): a data-checking and records role for graduates, preferably from Science, Commerce, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Applications, IT, Data Analytics or Management, who are strong in advanced MS Excel.
• Programming Assistant (Grade B): a hands-on data-processing role for BSc-IT, BCA, BSc Computer Science or Computer Science/IT engineering graduates who are comfortable in a Unix/Linux environment.

You need a separate application and fee for each post you want. An application made for one post cannot be moved to another.

Post-wise Duties

Server Administrator

You will manage Linux servers, covering user accounts, file systems, file transfer, performance, high availability and virtualisation, and keep switches and firewalls running securely. Backups and restores, MS Exchange email administration, and the daily anti-spam and advanced threat protection checks are also your job. IBPS stresses that this is real system administration work, not just health monitoring or software development, so apply only if that is your field.

Assistant

You will check the accuracy and integrity of exam results before IBPS publishes them, keep candidate data strictly confidential, and file paper and digital records in a planned way. Expect tight deadlines around result releases.

Programming Assistant

You will work with data files on Unix/Linux: editing them in the vi editor, running programs with different input parameters, and pulling data from several files into MS Excel reports. You will also move files between servers and may write basic code in FORTRAN or Python.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Mumbai-only posting: All three posts are permanently based in Mumbai, and IBPS gives no housing or accommodation help.
• Preference for Mumbai residents: People already living in Mumbai get first preference in shortlisting. Candidates from outside are welcome only if they are ready to move there for good.
• Service bond: You sign a bond of Rs. 1 lakh when you join and must serve at least two years; leave earlier and you pay that amount. Loss-of-pay days extend the bond period.
• Probation: You serve one year on probation, after which your service is confirmed under IBPS staff rules.
• Joining formalities: You must give a medical fitness certificate from a civil surgeon or an LIC/PSB-empanelled doctor, and clear police verification.
• No distance degrees: Degrees earned by correspondence, distance or open university mode are not accepted.
• Who cannot apply: Current IBPS staff (regular or contractual), former IBPS employees who resigned, and anyone who took part in an earlier selection round for these posts.
• Clean record: Your integrity must never have been doubted, with no penalty during service and no pending CBI or other agency case.
• Full commitment: IBPS says these posts need 24x7 commitment, and you travel to the selection process at your own cost.

Application Submission Notes

Registration is fully online on the IBPS recruitment portal linked from ibps.in. Besides your photo, signature and left thumb impression, you also upload a hand-written declaration (in English, not in capital letters), a brief resume in PDF and your Class 10 certificate, and you capture a live photo by webcam or phone.

Do not post the printout to IBPS. Keep it with your registration number and password; the portal lets you print your application until 27 November 2026.
