ICAR-IARI SRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI) is engaging Senior Research Fellows in its Division of Genetics at New Delhi. The work belongs to the ICAR-funded National Mission on High Yielding Seeds and is divided between lentil and mungbean research. These are temporary project roles that end with the relevant project and do not create a claim to a regular institute appointment.

The projects sit at the intersection of plant genetics, breeding and biotechnology. They suit researchers who want hands-on exposure to crop-improvement programmes and can contribute to laboratory, molecular-breeding and research-data work under the project team in the Division of Genetics.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Lentil project: research under National Mission on High Yielding Seeds-Lentil, project code 12-289G, with emphasis on genetics and crop improvement.
  • Mungbean project: parallel work under National Mission on High Yielding Seeds-Mungbean, project code 12-289H, using the same broad genetics, plant-breeding and biotechnology skill base.

Post-wise Duties

Lentil Research

You will support the lentil breeding programme through research observations, sample handling, molecular-breeding work and careful recording of project data. You may also help the project team prepare technical material and keep research records organised.

Mungbean Research

You will carry out comparable work for the mungbean improvement programme, coordinating laboratory and crop-research activities with the scientists leading the project. Computer skills will help you manage datasets, observations and routine project documentation.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Tenure: the initial contract runs with the project and may be extended until project completion when your performance is satisfactory.
  • Temporary status: the fellowship is co-terminus with the project, so it cannot be used to claim a regular ICAR-IARI post.
  • Reservation: the project positions are notified as unreserved.
  • Conduct: concealing facts, making false claims or canvassing can lead to disqualification or termination.
  • Relative declaration: if a near or distant relative works for ICAR or IARI, you must disclose the relationship in the prescribed declaration.
  • Jurisdiction: disputes connected with the recruitment fall under New Delhi courts.

Application Submission Notes

This is a walk-in recruitment at the Division of Genetics, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi-110012. Bring the completed application in the annexed format and keep the prescribed originals and self-attested copies ready for scrutiny at the venue.

If you have a relative employed by ICAR or IARI, send the required written declaration to the Head, Division of Genetics as directed in the notice. All other candidates must also bring the signed declaration supplied with the application format.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct lentil or mungbean genetics and plant-breeding research activities
  • Handle molecular-breeding samples and routine biotechnology work
  • Record experimental observations and keep project data organised
  • Manage research datasets using standard computer applications
  • Prepare technical notes and progress material for the project team
  • Follow laboratory, field and research-integrity procedures
