DPIIT Consultant and Junior Consultant Recruitment 2026: Overview
The Office of the Economic Adviser (OEA), an attached office of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is creating a panel of Consultants and Junior Consultants. People picked from the panel will work in the different divisions of OEA in New Delhi on a contract that starts with a three-year term.
Getting onto the panel does not guarantee a job. OEA sends offers in order of merit, only as and when a division needs someone. If you hold a Master's in Economics, Management or Statistics and have spent a few years in policy, research or data work, this is a chance to work close to the government's industrial data and policy desks.
Posts and Disciplines
- Junior Consultant: the entry-level role for professionals with a Master's in Economics, Management or Statistics and some years of relevant work after their degree.
- Consultant: the senior role for candidates with a Master's in Economics or Management and longer post-qualification experience; Statistics is not listed for this post.
Pay within each band is fixed according to your suitability and experience, so two people in the same role may start at different levels.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Tenure: An initial term of three years, reviewed every year through your performance appraisal, and extendable by up to two more years.
- Panel validity: The panel stays valid for two years from the date it is created.
- Full-time only: You cannot take up any other assignment while engaged with OEA. Normal hours are 9 AM to 5.30 PM, but you may be called in late or on weekends and holidays when work demands it.
- Pay and increments: You get a consolidated monthly fee after professional tax or TDS, with an annual increment on satisfactory performance. There is no DA, HRA, CGHS, medical reimbursement, transport or housing.
- Official tours: TA/DA and hotel stay on domestic or foreign tours follow central government rules for the grade linked to your post.
- Leave: Paid leave of 1.5 days per completed month with no carry-forward; women consultants can get up to 26 weeks of maternity leave.
- Secrecy: You are bound by the Official Secrets Act, 1923, during and after the engagement, and you cannot publish articles or speak to the media on your assigned subjects without permission.
- Police verification: Needed for everyone selected. If you are engaged urgently, the report must follow within two months.
- Exit: Either side can end the contract with 30 days' notice or pay in lieu. The engagement gives no claim to a regular government job.
- Legal status: You work as an independent consultant, not as a DPIIT staff member.
- Interview travel: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
Application Submission Notes
OEA accepts applications only online through its job portal at eaindustry.nic.in, which begins with an email verification step. No other mode of applying is accepted.
Use an email ID and mobile number you check often, because every update is sent electronically, never by post. OEA will post any extension of the deadline on the OEA and DPIIT websites. Once you submit, you cannot change the form or add documents, so check everything first.
