The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has released Advertisement No. 592 for 2 Post-Doctoral Fellow positions under its Physical Sciences Division and Life Science Division. Who Can Apply?

Physical Sciences PDF

  • Essential: M.Sc. in Physics and a Ph.D in Physics / Materials Science / Nanoscience from a recognised University or Institute, with expertise in synthesis and characterization of magnetic nanomaterials or advanced functional nanomaterials.
  • Desirable: Experience in analysing SQUID-VSM data, M-H curves, and determining the crystal structure of magnetic nanomaterials. Your thesis work should match these areas.

Life Sciences PDF

  • Essential: Ph.D in Biotechnology / Microbiology / Life Sciences (Botany) / Molecular Biology / Plant Pathology / Agricultural Biotechnology from a recognised University or Institute, with research experience in plant-microbe interactions, microbial biocontrol of diseases and pests, or bioactive metabolites against multi-drug resistant pathogens.
  • Desirable: Experience in microbial consortia, bio-formulation, plant disease management, metagenomics, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, sequencing, bioinformatics tools, and patent drafting.

Common Requirement

  • You need at least 2 first-author publications in peer-reviewed national or international journals, each with an impact factor of more than 2.
  • Candidates who have submitted their PhD thesis (but not yet awarded the degree) can also apply, but will get a lower fellowship until the degree is awarded.
  • You cannot avail this fellowship if you did your PhD at IASST. This fellowship can be used only once in your career.

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 35 years at the time of application.
  • Age Relaxation: As per Government of India rules.

Salary

  • You will get a fellowship of Rs. 80,000 per month (consolidated).
  • Candidates who have only submitted their thesis will get a lower amount until the degree is awarded.
  • You cannot take any other fellowship from any government or non-government source during this period.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based on:

  1. Shortlisting: Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the next stage.
  2. Interview and Presentation: You will give a short presentation of your PhD work or research proposal before the interview board. This may be done through video conferencing with prior approval.

No TA/DA will be paid for the interview. If you are employed, you must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer.

  • Carry out research work under an assigned mentor in the relevant division

  • Analyse experimental data and prepare research reports
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals

  • Follow IASST and DST rules and research guidelines
  • Assist in technology development, patent drafting, and lab activities where required

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

PhD in the relevant subject area (Physics/Materials Science/Nanoscience OR Biotechnology/Microbiology/Life Sciences/Molecular Biology/Plant Pathology/Agricultural Biotechnology) with at least 2 first-author publications (impact factor > 2 each)

Preferred Qualification

Expertise in synthesis and characterization of magnetic nanomaterials (Physical Sciences) or plant-microbe interactions, microbial biocontrol, metagenomics and bioinformatics (Life Sciences)

Required Skills

Research methodology, materials characterization (SQUID-VSM, M-H, crystal structure) or molecular and microbiological techniques (PCR, qPCR, DNA/RNA isolation, sequencing, bioinformatics)
