About This Job

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) is engaging 40 Rigger Trainee Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961 at its Kochi yard. If you have passed Class 8 (VIII Std), you can apply online. Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a Schedule 'A' Category-I Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, has released Vacancy Notification Ref No. CSL/P&A/APPE/SEL. DESIGNTD/RIGGER/2023/1 dated 06 May 2026 for engagement of 40 Rigger Trainee Apprentices for a two-year apprenticeship training scheme. Graduates and Diploma holders are NOT eligible — this opportunity is exclusively for Class 8 pass candidates. Selection is based on a Physical Test (100 marks) with no written exam in the regular flow.

Vacancy Breakdown

Total 40 Rigger Trainee Apprentice seats, distributed category-wise:

  • Unreserved (UR): 16 seats
  • OBC: 13 seats
  • SC: 7 seats
  • EWS: 4 seats

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You must have passed Class 8 (VIII Std).
  • Higher Qualifications NOT Allowed: Graduates, Diploma holders, or persons with any higher qualification are not eligible.
  • Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply.
  • Physical Fitness: You must meet the physical requirements specified at Annexure-I of the notification and clear the medical examination.

Age Limit

  • You should be between 18 and 23 years old as on 30 May 2026 (the last date of online application).
  • Date of birth must be between 31 May 2003 and 31 May 2008 (both dates inclusive).
  • Age Relaxation: 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) and 5 years for SC/ST candidates in seats reserved for them.

Salary / Stipend

  • First Year Stipend: Rs. 11,000 per month
  • Second Year Stipend: Rs. 12,000 per month

After successful completion of the two-year training, candidates may be considered for contract appointment at CSL's discretion with the following pay:

  • Year 1 of Contract: Rs. 22,100/month + Rs. 5,530 for extra hours
  • Year 2 of Contract: Rs. 22,800/month + Rs. 5,700 for extra hours
  • Year 3 of Contract: Rs. 23,400/month + Rs. 5,850 for extra hours

CSL is not liable to offer any other appointment during or after completion of the two-year training.

Selection Process

Selection is based on a Physical Test (100 marks):

  1. Shortlisting: Candidates meeting the eligibility criteria are shortlisted in the ratio of 1:6 per seat. If the number of applicants is too high, CSL may conduct a screening written test to prepare the shortlist.
  2. Certificate Verification: Bring all original certificates (age, qualification, caste, EWS) along with self-attested copies. Only candidates who clear certificate verification proceed to the Physical Test.
  3. Physical Test (100 Marks): The qualifying marks are 50 marks for UR/EWS, 45 marks for OBC, and 40 marks for SC. The rank list is prepared based on Physical Test scores. In case of a tie, seniority in age is used.
  4. Medical Examination: Shortlisted candidates must clear a medical examination by a CSL-approved hospital before joining.

No TA/DA will be paid for attending the selection. Call letters are sent only by email and through the CSL website — not by post.

  2. Complete the One Time Registration on the SAP online application portal.
  3. Fill the online application form with all required details.
  4. Upload certificates: age proof, qualification certificate (Class 8), caste/EWS certificate, and a recent passport-size colour photograph.
  5. Submit the application before 30 May 2026. Note the unique registration number for future reference.
  6. Verify in My Applications that the status shows "In process". Do NOT send the printout or any documents by post — only the online submission is accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Handle ropes, wires, slings, chains, and shackles for lifting and moving heavy ship parts
  • Set up and rig hoisting equipment, derricks, and cranes used in shipbuilding
  • Assist with loading and unloading of ship blocks, machinery, and steel structures
  • Follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment at all times
  • Work alongside fitters, welders, and crane operators in dry docks and slipways
  • Inspect rigging gear daily and report any damage or wear to the supervisor
  • Learn rigging techniques, knots, and load calculations during the two-year training

Pay Scale
