ECoR Act Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Overview

East Coast Railway (ECoR) is engaging Act Apprentices for trade training under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Railway Recruitment Cell, Bhubaneswar is coordinating the centralized intake for divisions, workshops and the zonal headquarters in Odisha. Your academic record and unit-trade preference matter here because the final panel is prepared without a written test or viva.

This is apprenticeship training, not appointment to a regular Railway post. It suits candidates who already hold the notified school and trade qualifications and want supervised experience in a working railway establishment.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Mechanical trades: Fitter, Welder, Turner, Machinist, Carpenter, Painter, Sheet Metal Worker, Black Smith, Grinder and related workshop roles.
  • Electrical and electronics trades: Electrician, Wireman, Electronics Mechanic and Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Mechanic.
  • Civil and maintenance trades: Plumber, Mason, Driller, Bridge Erector and Draftsman disciplines serving engineering units.
  • Office and digital trades: Computer Operator and Programming Assistant plus Secretarial Assistant in headquarters functions.
  • Specialized roles: Motor Vehicle and Diesel Mechanic, Sarang and Laboratory Technician in the notified units.

Post-wise Duties

Workshop and Mechanical Trades

You will learn inspection, fitting, fabrication, repair and safe tool handling under qualified supervisors. Training will follow the designated trade and the needs of your allotted workshop or division.

Electrical and Electronics Trades

You will assist with wiring, equipment checks, fault finding and preventive maintenance. Safe isolation practices and accurate work records are central to these trades.

Engineering and Civil Trades

You will support railway structures, drawings, masonry, plumbing and field maintenance according to your chosen trade. The work may be based in a division, depot or engineering unit.

Office and Computer Trades

You will handle basic programming, computer operations, records and secretarial support in an administrative setting. Accuracy and careful handling of official information will be important.

Laboratory and Other Specialized Trades

You will assist trained staff with trade-specific technical routines and safety procedures. The exact work depends on the unit and discipline allotted through the merit-and-preference process.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Training status: apprentices receive training under the applicable statutory contract and Railway Board rules.
  • No job guarantee: completion of training does not create a right to employment in the Railways.
  • Unit choice: you may choose only one division or workshop, and the submitted preference is final.
  • Accommodation: the railway will not provide a hostel, so you must arrange your own stay during training.
  • Verification: selection remains subject to original-document checks and the prescribed government medical-fitness certificate.
  • Training discipline: withdrawal or wilful absence can lead to recovery under the apprenticeship agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Learn the practical work prescribed for the allotted railway trade
  • Follow workshop, electrical, laboratory or field safety procedures
