CSL Assistant Manager Safety Recruitment 2026: Overview

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a Government of India Miniratna company, is recruiting an Assistant Manager (Safety) for its AN Ship Repair Unit (CANSRU) at Sri Vijaya Puram. This is an executive safety role inside an active ship-repair environment, where docks, vessels, workshops and restricted spaces are part of everyday operations. The role suits an experienced factory-safety professional who is comfortable combining field inspections with systems work and statutory coordination.

Health, Safety and Environment leadership is the centre of this appointment. You will be expected to build awareness among the workforce, check compliance with the yard's quality and HSE systems and take ownership of safety work against operational targets. The notice also values computer proficiency, audit certification and familiarity with shipbuilding or repair, which reflects the mix of technical, reporting and people-facing work involved.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Initial workplace: The role is based at CANSRU, Sri Vijaya Puram, but CSL can move the officer to another unit, project site, department, vessel or worksite in India or abroad as operational needs change.
  • Field environment: You must be comfortable visiting shops, docks and ships under construction or repair, climbing vertical ladders, passing through manholes and narrow passages, inspecting deep tanks and working around heights and confined spaces.
  • Fitness and suitability: The notice says the role needs a high degree of physical fitness and has not been identified as suitable for PwBD candidates because of the safety risks in these work areas.
  • Travel readiness: The manager may need to travel at short notice and deliver work within set operational time frames.
  • Service flexibility: The appointment carries an obligation to serve in any CSL department or on board ships when required. The selected person starts at the minimum of the applicable scale, and pay protection from earlier employment is not offered.
  • Certificate scrutiny: Experience is counted only after the qualifying credential, and training periods do not count. Your uploaded records must clearly show the nature of work, dates and responsibility handled.
  • Government employees: Regular government or government-owned-organisation staff apply directly online but must upload the prescribed declaration that their employer has been informed. Any employer objection can affect candidature.
  • Rank-list validity: CSL can use the resulting rank list for vacancies arising during its stated validity period. The notified requirement may change, and the company can alter or cancel the process when project needs change.
  • Medical and workplace rules: Appointment is subject to character, antecedent, certificate and medical checks. The selected officer must also accept CSL's workplace smartphone-use policy.
  • Updates and jurisdiction: Amendments appear only on the CSL website, while recruitment disputes fall under the courts and forums at Ernakulam.

The practical nature of CANSRU safety work makes this more than a desk-based compliance post. Your ability to communicate clearly with shipyard teams, enter difficult inspection areas and coordinate with government or statutory agencies will shape your day-to-day effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Manage health, safety and environment activities across CANSRU operations
  • Inspect docks, ships, deep tanks, restricted spaces and other work areas
  • Promote HSE awareness among staff and contractors
  • Check compliance with yard quality and safety management systems
  • Coordinate safety matters with government and statutory agencies
  • Prepare inspection records, compliance reports and corrective-action follow-up
  • Travel at short notice and deliver safety targets within the assigned time frame
