CSL Ship Draftsman Trainee Recruitment — 60 Vacancies

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has opened 60 Ship Draftsman Trainee seats in Mechanical and Electrical disciplines. This two-year training programme is for SSLC-qualified diploma holders with at least 60% marks, a flair for draftsmanship and proficiency in CAD. Online applications opened on 19 August 2026 and close on 4 September 2026.

CSL Ship Draftsman Trainee Recruitment 2026

The recruitment is under Notification No. CSL/P&A/RECTT/TRAINEES/GENERAL/2023/1 dated 18 August 2026. Training takes place at CSL, Kochi and includes time in shipyard work areas. The first year is followed by a performance evaluation; only successful trainees continue into the second year.

This programme does not promise a regular post. Depending on organizational needs, available vacancies and individual performance, CSL may consider successful trainees for five-year contractual posts after training. That possibility remains entirely at CSL's discretion, so applicants should treat the notified two-year training as the current opportunity.

Vacancy Breakdown

CSL may increase, reduce or leave seats unfilled according to its requirements. Reservation certificates must meet the format and issuing-authority conditions in the notice. OBC applicants need a valid Non-Creamy Layer community certificate, while EWS applicants need the prescribed Income and Asset Certificate.

Who Can Apply?

Mechanical Discipline

You must have passed SSLC and a three-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a State Board of Technical Education with at least 60% marks. You also need a flair for draftsmanship and proficiency in CAD.

Electrical Discipline

You must have passed SSLC and a three-year Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a State Board of Technical Education with at least 60% marks. Draftsmanship aptitude and CAD proficiency are required here as well.

The prescribed qualification must come from a recognized board or authority. If your credential is described as equivalent, upload a competent-authority equivalency certificate. CSL expressly states that a higher qualification such as B.Tech or M.Sc does not make up for missing the required SSLC and three-year diploma route.

Age Limit

The upper age limit is 25 years on 4 September 2026, which means applicants should have been born on or after 5 September 2001. The limit is relaxed by three years for OBC Non-Creamy Layer applicants and five years for SC or ST applicants, but only against seats reserved for the relevant category.

Stipend and Training Terms

The stipend is Rs. 14,000 per month in the first year and Rs. 20,000 per month in the second year. Trainees may also receive payment for extra hours worked beyond normal working hours. The second year depends on passing the performance evaluation held after year one.

The notified term is two years of training. Any later consideration for a five-year contractual post depends on CSL's requirements, available vacancies and individual performance. It should not be read as an automatic appointment or guarantee.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Training includes visits and inspections on shop floors, dry docks and ships under construction. Trainees may need to use vertical ladders, pass through manholes and work in confined spaces. Because of these duties, CSL says the seats are not identified for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities.

Application Fee

The fee is non-refundable, and CSL does not accept another payment mode. An application that requires a fee is considered only after CSL receives that payment. Check the amount and application status before final submission.

Selection Process

1. Application scrutiny: CSL checks the uploaded proof of age, qualification and reservation eligibility and may shortlist applicants.
2. Certificate verification: Shortlisted applicants produce original certificates and self-attested copies before proceeding.
3. Practical test: Verified applicants prepare a drawing in CAD software at CSL, Kochi for 100 marks.
4. Discipline-wise rank list: Merit is based on practical-test marks; an age-seniority rule breaks a tie.

The minimum practical-test score is 50% for UR and EWS, 45% for OBC, and 40% for SC or ST against the applicable reserved seats. CSL may relax a pass mark if too few people qualify. This is a CAD practical test, not a physical fitness test.

How to Apply

1. Read the user manual, FAQ and full CSL notification before entering the SAP portal.
2. Complete one-time registration and then submit the application for the appropriate Mechanical or Electrical discipline.
3. Enter the exact percentage from your diploma records and upload proof of age, qualification, category and a recent passport-size colour photograph.
4. Pay the Rs. 300 fee online if you are not in an exempt SC or ST category.
5. Submit the form by 4 September 2026 and check that its status shows In process, not draft or withdrawn.
6. Keep a soft copy or printout with the unique registration number. Do not send the form or certificates to CSL by post.

Submit only one complete online application. CSL does not accept direct, postal or other modes, and it may not provide troubleshooting help after 4:00 pm on the last date. Applying early leaves time to correct upload or payment problems before final submission.
