CSL Ship Draftsman Trainee Recruitment 2026: Overview

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) is offering Ship Draftsman Trainee seats in its Mechanical and Electrical disciplines at Kochi. This is a two-year training programme for diploma holders who can work with CAD and understand technical drawings. The online application window has been extended, giving eligible candidates more time to complete the CSL form.

The programme combines drawing-office work with exposure to active shipbuilding areas. You should view it as a training opportunity: selection does not create a right to regular employment at CSL.

Posts and Disciplines

• Mechanical: You will learn to prepare and update drawings connected with ship structures, machinery layouts and production work while coordinating with shipyard teams.
• Electrical: You will work with electrical drawings, equipment layouts and related CAD records used during vessel construction and fitting-out.

Both streams call for careful drafting, sound engineering basics and confidence using CAD tools. You must choose the discipline that matches your prescribed diploma; a higher qualification does not replace the notified SSLC-and-diploma route.

Post-wise Duties

Mechanical Ship Draftsman Trainee

You will turn engineering inputs into clear mechanical and shipbuilding drawings, check dimensions and drawing revisions, and support updates required during construction. The training may also take you to shop floors, dry docks and ships under construction so that your drawings reflect actual work conditions.

Electrical Ship Draftsman Trainee

You will prepare and maintain electrical drawings and CAD files, check symbols and revisions, and help keep technical records aligned with work on the vessel. You may need to coordinate drawing changes with production and inspection teams.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Training tenure: The notified engagement is a two-year training programme. Continuation into the second year depends on successful performance in the first-year evaluation.
• Future engagement: CSL may consider successful trainees for a later five-year contractual post, depending on its needs, available posts and individual performance. This is discretionary and is not a promised appointment.
• Work setting: Training can involve vertical ladders, manholes and confined spaces in operational shipyard areas. Follow every safety instruction during these visits.
• Accessibility note: CSL has stated that these trainee seats are not identified for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities because of the notified work conditions.
• Reservation records: Category claims must be supported by certificates in the prescribed format from the proper authority.
