Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has released a notification for 1 Junior Research Fellow position in the Department of Chemistry, Mahila Maha Vidyalaya (MMV), under an ANRF (Anusandhan National Research Foundation) sponsored project. The project is led by Principal Investigator Dr. Arup Tarai, Assistant Professor, and is titled "Tuning Sigma-Hole Characteristics in Pnictogen Based Metallo-Corrole Complexes to Promote Anion Transport Across Phospholipid Bilayers." Candidates with a strong background in organic synthesis are especially encouraged to apply, since the work involves multi-step synthesis and purification of corrole compounds.
Corroles are redox-active, tetrapyrrolic macrocyclic compounds that are structural relatives of porphyrins, and this project studies how metallo-corroles can help transport different anions selectively across cell membranes. As the JRF on this project, you will design and perform experiments, analyse results using spectroscopic and crystallographic methods, and write reports and manuscripts along with the research team. You will also get the chance to participate in collaborative studies with other researchers working on related chemistry problems.
Mahila Maha Vidyalaya (MMV) is a well-known constituent college of Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, and its Department of Chemistry regularly hosts government-funded research projects like this one. Based on the year-wise salary structure given in the advertisement, the fellowship is expected to run for up to three years, in line with the project's sanctioned duration. If you are selected, you will get hands-on exposure to organic synthesis, spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography — skills that are valuable if you are considering a research career or a Ph.D. in chemistry after this fellowship.
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: M.Sc. in Chemistry with at least 55% aggregate marks (or equivalent grade)
- Mandatory: You must have qualified UGC/CSIR NET or GATE
- Preferred: Knowledge of organic synthesis techniques
- Preferred: Practical experience in spectroscopic techniques (UV-Vis, Fluorescence, IR, NMR, Mass) and Single-crystal XRD/PXRD
Age Limit
- You should be up to 28 years old to apply for this fellowship.
- Age Relaxation: SC/ST and PH (physically handicapped) candidates get a 5-year relaxation.
- Other selection criteria for this fellowship follow the rules of ANRF and the Government of India.
Salary
- You will get Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA in the 1st and 2nd year of the fellowship.
- Your salary increases to Rs. 42,000 per month plus HRA in the 3rd year.
Selection Process (No Written Exam)
Selection for this fellowship is done through:
- Interview: Only shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview, either in-person or online. The interview date will be communicated to you by email. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview. Bring your original certificates and degrees for verification at the time of the interview.
Since this fellowship is funded through a national-level ANRF grant, expect the interview to focus on your understanding of organic synthesis, spectroscopic analysis, and your motivation to work on anion transport chemistry. Being able to discuss your past lab experience clearly will help your case, even if you have not worked on corroles specifically before.
How to Apply
- Open the Google Form link given in the official advertisement.
- Fill in your personal and academic details in the form.
- Upload all supporting documents, including certificates and your CV.
- Submit the form online before the last date.
Read the project description carefully before applying, so that your submission reflects genuine interest in corrole chemistry and phospholipid bilayer research — this can help you stand out among other applicants.
