Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, is looking for its next Chairman & Managing Director. The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has issued the advertisement (Advt. No. 47/2026 / PESB No. 6/9/2026-PESB dated 06.05.2026). The appointment will be effective from 1 March 2027 for a tenure of 5 years or up to superannuation (age 60), whichever is earlier. BHEL operates 16 manufacturing plants and 9 service centres, and employs over 27,000 people across Power, Transmission, Railways, Defence, and heavy industries.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

• You need an Engineering Degree or CA / CMA / Post Graduate degree / MBA / PGDIM from a recognised institute.

Experience Required

• Minimum 5 years cumulative experience in the last 10 years in Finance, Business Development, Production, Operations, Marketing, or Project Management in a large organisation.
• Experience in Heavy & Medium Engineering / Electrical Sector is a strong advantage.
• Alternative route: 5 years in core HR / IR functions plus 3 years in any of the above functional areas.

Eligible Candidates

• Serving CMDs and Functional Directors in CPSEs
• Senior Central Government Group 'A' officers at Additional Secretary level or equivalent
• Board-level officers from eligible State PSEs, Private Companies, or Joint Ventures with turnover of Rs. 10,000 crore or more

Age Limit

• Minimum age: 45 years as on date of vacancy
• Maximum age: 2 years residual service (for internal candidates) / 3 years residual service (for external / others) as on date of vacancy

Salary

• Pay Scale: Rs. 2,00,000 - Rs. 3,70,000 per month (IDA - Schedule A)
• You will also get DA, HRA, perks under cafeteria approach, performance-related pay, and other benefits as per Government of India and DPE rules for Maharatna CPSEs

Selection Process

The selection is conducted by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) through:

1. Screening of Applications: PESB shortlists candidates based on eligibility and experience.
2. Personal Interaction with PESB: Shortlisted candidates appear before the PESB selection panel.
3. Recommendation: PESB sends the recommendation to the Government of India for final approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
