AVNL Consultant Business Development Recruitment 2026: Overview

Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), a Defence Public Sector company under the Ministry of Defence, is hiring a Consultant – Business Development (Naval Domain) on a fixed-term basis. AVNL builds main battle tanks, infantry combat vehicles and defence mobility systems from its headquarters at Avadi, Chennai. This post exists to help the company branch out into the naval sector — naval logistics, shore-based military mobility and maritime security.

The role is built for a retired Indian Navy Gunnery officer of Captain rank who has worked in the Naval Acquisition Wing or on capital procurement. If you know how the Navy buys equipment and want to use that knowledge after retirement, this is a senior advisory job where your contacts and domain knowledge matter most.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Place of posting: Machine Tool Prototype Factory (MTPF), Ambernath, Maharashtra, with regular travel to Naval Headquarters in New Delhi, naval commands, dockyards, DRDO units, defence PSUs and shipyards.
• Working mode: Either fully physical — at least 5 working days a week (6 in production or R&D units) from any AVNL office — or hybrid, with at least 8 working days a month from an AVNL office and the rest from home.
• Tenure: One year at first, extendable by two more years (three years in all) based on business need and your performance, or until you turn 65, whichever is earlier.
• Leave: 18 days of earned leave and 10 days of casual leave a year on a pro-rata basis; unused leave lapses at the end of the calendar year.
• Vigilance clearance: You must have been clear from the vigilance and disciplinary angle at the time of your retirement.
• Voluntary retirees: Anyone who took voluntary retirement from AVNL, the former OFB units, other PSUs, autonomous bodies, government departments or the defence services cannot apply.
• Medical and police checks: You must be declared medically fit, and you have to arrange your own Police Verification Report at the time of joining.
• Jurisdiction: Any legal dispute about this advertisement can be taken up only in courts at Chennai.

• Build working ties with Naval Headquarters, naval commands, dockyards, Coast Guard Headquarters and shipyards
• Identify openings for AVNL in naval logistics, shore-based military mobility and maritime security projects
• Advise AVNL management on Indian Navy requirements, modernisation plans and long-term diversification
• Research international naval support equipment and recommend products for indigenous development
• Prepare market intelligence reports, competitor analysis and annual business development plans
• Coordinate with DRDO labs, defence shipyards and PSUs such as MDL, GRSE, BEL and BDL on joint product development
• Track Navy procurement programmes through the AoN, RFI and RFP stages
• Promote AVNL products at naval exhibitions, maritime security forums and defence industry events
