DIAT SRF or JRF Applied Mathematics Recruitment 2026: Overview

Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune, a deemed university under the Department of Defence Research and Development, Ministry of Defence, wants one Senior Research Fellow (SRF) or Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for its Department of Applied Mathematics. The fellow will work on a DRDO-sponsored research project titled "A Data Science Perspective for IVHM of Aircraft Engines Design and Development of Intelligent Prognostics", which uses data science to predict and track the health of aircraft engines.

This is a project-based, temporary fellowship, not a regular government post. If you come from data science, AI, machine learning, computer science or electronics and want real defence research experience, this opening fits you well.

Posts and Disciplines

• Senior Research Fellow (SRF): DIAT's first choice for this project. It is the senior level, so you need prior research, teaching or industry experience in a related field on top of the degree.
• Junior Research Fellow (JRF): the fallback level. DIAT will hire a JRF only if it cannot find a suitable SRF, so fresh graduates with the right degree should still apply.
• Accepted disciplines: Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Modelling and Simulation, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics, and Electronics and Communication Engineering.

Strong Python skills with libraries such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, Transformers, Keras and TensorFlow will help you stand out. Exposure to deep learning, data mining, time series analysis, digital signal processing or thermal image processing is a plus.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The position is purely temporary, for six months or until the project ends, whichever comes first.
• No absorption: Getting this fellowship gives you no right to a permanent job at DIAT.
• PhD option: Selected fellows are encouraged to register for a PhD at DIAT through the institute's normal channels.
• Medical cover: Medical facilities are limited to the institute's MI Room.
• Shortlisting: If many people apply, a screening committee may call only those whose qualifications and experience go beyond the minimum. List every qualification and all your experience clearly, with proof.
• Interview mode: In person or by video conference, as DIAT decides. Shortlisted candidates are told by email, and no TA/DA is paid for attending.
• Joining: You must join immediately after you receive the offer letter.
• Recognised institutions: Your degrees and experience must come from recognised universities, institutions or industries.
