DIAT Professor and Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: Overview

Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), a deemed university at Girinagar, Pune, is hiring faculty under Advt. No. DIAT/RC/01-FP-2026. DIAT teaches officers of the Armed Forces, DRDO scientists, Ordnance Factory and defence PSU engineers alongside regular students, so its faculty work closely on defence and national-security research. The notice has two tracks: regular Professor and Assistant Professor posts, and Professor of Practice roles on a fixed tenure for senior experts from DRDO, defence PSUs, industry and the Armed Forces. The campus sits on the banks of Khadakwasla Lake, about 30 km from Pune airport.

Posts and Disciplines

Each Assistant Professor post is earmarked for one category (UR, EWS, ST or SC), so check the post-wise rows before you apply. The institute may shortlist strictly on the specialisation each department needs.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Probation: Regular posts start with a one-year probation; it can be extended if performance is not satisfactory, and the post is regularised after you clear it.
• Joint appointments: Post Code 04 reports to the Head of Electronics Engineering, and Post Code 05 reports to the Director, SDT&M. You will carry academic duties in both departments.
• Professor of Practice tenure: The engagement starts for up to one year and is reviewed for extension. It cannot go beyond three years, or four years in exceptional cases, and no allowances or other benefits are paid on top of the consolidated amount.
• Shortlisting: The UGC 2018 academic score is used only to shortlist you; the final selection depends on the interview. Shortlisted regular-post candidates may have to give a 30-minute presentation on their research a day before the interview.
• Marks relief: SC, ST and differently-abled candidates get a 5% relaxation in marks. Time spent earning your PhD does not count as teaching or research experience.
• Campus stay: Selected faculty must live in institute accommodation inside the DIAT campus, subject to availability.
• Waitlist: A waitlist may stay valid for one year if a selected candidate does not join or resigns.
• Institute rights: DIAT may fill fewer posts, move you to another department, or offer the appointment on contract basis.
• Medical fitness: Appointment depends on being found medically fit, and any legal dispute goes only to courts in Pune.

Register and apply on the DIAT Samarth recruitment portal, and pay the fee through SBI Collect (Educational Institutions → Defence Institute of Advanced Technology → Recruitment Application Fees, choosing Advt. No. 01-FP-2026 and your post code). Apply separately for each post you want.

After the online form, send the signed printout with self-attested certificates and the fee receipt by speed or registered post to The Registrar, Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (Deemed to be University), Girinagar, Pune, Maharashtra 411025. Write "Application for the position of ____" on the envelope; the hard copy must reach DIAT by 1 December 2026, 5:30 pm. Email or hand-delivered applications are not accepted, and government employees must apply through proper channel or attach an NOC.
