RGCB Technical Officer and Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

BRIC-Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Thiruvananthapuram, is filling regular Technical Officer, Technical Assistant Group II and Technical Assistant Group I posts under advertisement RGCB/Advt./TECH/01/2026. RGCB is a biotechnology research institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, and these three grades keep its laboratories, instruments and research facilities running every day. Every post asks for documented work experience in a government research institution, PSU, autonomous body or university, so this drive suits people who already have some hands-on lab or technical experience.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Technical Officer (Code 1): an engineering-support role for people with a first-class B.E./B.Tech in Biotechnology, Biomedical, Instrumentation or Electronics and Communication Engineering, or a first-class M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Physics or Chemistry. Practical skill in biomedical instrumentation, electronics and embedded systems matters most here.
  • Technical Assistant Group II (Code 2): a lab-research support role for first-class science graduates who are comfortable handling samples, reagents and standard lab instruments.
  • Technical Assistant Group I (Code 3): an entry-level lab and office support role for candidates with a first-class Plus Two, Higher Secondary or VHSE pass.

Post-wise Duties

Technical Officer

You will install, run, calibrate and repair the biomedical, electronic and lab instruments used across RGCB's research divisions. The job also covers hardware prototyping, PCB design, circuit debugging and sensor integration for research and translational projects, along with support for field deployments, the mobile laboratory and outreach programmes. You will write equipment specifications and procurement notes, follow up on installation and AMC work, and train students and project staff to use instruments safely.

Technical Assistant Group II

You will carry out routine lab procedures such as preparing reagents and buffers, handling biological and chemical samples, and helping scientists run their experiments. You will operate and look after instruments like centrifuges, spectrophotometers, microscopes, electrophoresis units and PCR systems, keep chemical and consumable stocks in order, and make sure safety and biomedical waste rules are followed.

Technical Assistant Group I

You will support the Laboratory-in-Charge in daily work, keep lab records, and handle hygiene, autoclave and waste-disposal duties. The post also includes clerical and simple accounting work, such as keeping work logs and processing orders, indents and invoices for the lab.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Citizenship: Only Indian citizens can apply.
  • Cut-off for qualifications: your degree and experience are counted as on the last date for applications.
  • Where experience counts: it must be documented and earned in Central or State Government research institutions, PSUs, autonomous bodies or universities.
  • Reserved positions: OBC applicants need a valid non-creamy layer certificate, and EWS applicants need an Income and Asset Certificate in the prescribed format. Without these, you will not be considered against the reserved positions.
  • Posting: Selected candidates can be posted to any office or branch of the institute, anywhere in India.
  • Selection panel: the number of posts is provisional. The panel stays valid for one year, and the Director may fill extra positions from it.
  • Exam venue: all three tiers of the selection exam are held only at Thiruvananthapuram.
