HIL Project Manager Recruitment 2026: Overview
HIL (India) Limited (HIL), a Government of India enterprise that makes and sells agrochemicals, public health products and seeds, is hiring a Project Manager and an Assistant Project Manager for its FARM project. FARM stands for Financing Agrochemical Reduction and Management, a programme of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and HIL is the agency running this multilateral project in India. Both roles are based at the Corporate Office in New Delhi and are contract jobs tied to the project, not regular company posts.
What the FARM project wants to achieve
Farmers use more agrochemicals every year to protect crops, but this brings soil damage, loss of biodiversity and pollution. The FARM project wants to phase out persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and steadily cut the use of highly hazardous pesticides (HHPs) in India. It also plans to launch safer alternatives and shift about 1.45 million hectares of cropland from chemicals to these safer options.
If you have spent years on sustainable agriculture, IPM, or natural and organic farming projects, this is a chance to work on a national-scale programme backed by a global funding body.
Posts and Disciplines
- Project Manager: the senior role that runs the project as per the agreement, plans the work and keeps reporting on track. It needs long experience in sustainable agriculture projects; work on an international project is an added advantage.
- Assistant Project Manager: a hands-on role focused on outreach to farmers and stakeholders through meetings, workshops, trainings and technical briefs, with a lower experience bar.
- Subjects accepted for both posts: Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Agricultural Engineering, any agriculture-related field, or Biotechnology, at PhD level or as a full-time Master's degree.
- What gives you an edge: an MBA, knowledge of environmental and sustainable practices and agriculture extension, and courses in environmental sustainability, agroecology or sustainable agriculture.
Post-wise Duties
Project Manager
You will carry out the project's activities as the agreement lays down and prepare monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual work plans along with the implementation framework. You will gather background material and data for discussions and briefings, and work closely with implementing agencies, government departments and industry partners. Getting the project's documents, letters and reports out on time is also your job.
Assistant Project Manager
You will organise meetings, workshops and training programmes for farmers and other stakeholders, and write technical briefs, presentations and post-event reports. You will also help build briefing material and work plans, and keep in touch with the agencies and departments involved in the project.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Contract tenure: Both posts are purely temporary and run until 30 June 2028 or until the project ends, whichever comes first.
- Early exit: HIL can end the contract at any time with 30 days' notice or pay in lieu of notice, without giving a reason.
- No regular job claim: this contract gives you no right to a permanent post in HIL.
- Pay is decided by the committee: the CTC in the notice is an upper limit; the selection committee fixes your actual pay based on your qualification, experience and domain knowledge.
- Flexible criteria: HIL says it may relax age, qualification and experience rules for the right candidate.
- Nationality: only Indian nationals can apply.
- Shortlisting: HIL may call only a limited number of shortlisted applicants for interview and may add another test if many people apply.
- Interview travel: no TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
- False details: wrong information or fake documents can lead to disqualification or dismissal, even after you join.
