SAIL Bokaro Medical Consultant Recruitment 2026: Overview

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), through its Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), is engaging doctors as Consultants for Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) in Jharkhand. BGH is a 910-bed multispecialty hospital run by SAIL, one of the country's Maharatna public sector companies. The drive covers specialist consultants in three disciplines and General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs) — this is a contractual engagement under SAIL's consultant scheme, not a regular job.

The biggest highlight: retired doctors are welcome. Former doctors of SAIL plants, other PSUs and government bodies can also apply, as long as they did not leave through voluntary retirement. If you have relevant work experience, you get preference at the interview.

Posts and Disciplines

• Consultant as Specialist – Orthopaedics: for MBBS doctors with a PG diploma or PG degree in orthopaedics.
• Consultant as Specialist – Anaesthesia: for MBBS doctors with a PG diploma or PG degree in anaesthesia.
• Consultant as Specialist – Obstetrics and Gynaecology: for MBBS doctors with a PG diploma or PG degree in the speciality; the specialist posts carry backlog reservations for SC and OBC candidates.
• Consultant as General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO): open to MBBS doctors; one GDMO post is a horizontal backlog reservation for PwBD (OH/OL) candidates.

Your pay depends on your highest qualification, not just the post name. A specialist with a PG degree earns a higher consolidated rate than one with a PG diploma, and both earn more than a GDMO.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: One year at first, or until you turn 70, whichever comes first. SAIL may extend it one year at a time, but a single contract cannot run beyond three years. You can still be re-engaged later.
• Annual review: Your work is reviewed every year, and the tenure can be cut short or extended based on it.
• Working hours: You work at least 8 hours a day, six days a week (48 hours) in whichever Medical and Health Services department needs you. If you are engaged for fewer hours, your pay is reduced pro-rata.
• Housing: Non-SAIL consultants can get a 2 BHK-type company quarter on payment, subject to availability. Former SAIL employees up to E-7 grade may keep their allotted quarter on payment of rent and charges. No HRA is paid.
• Medical cover: Treatment for you and your spouse at the plant hospital only, if your previous employer does not already cover you; no outside referrals. Former SAIL staff keep their ex-employee medical benefits.
• Leave: 10 days of leave a year with prior approval, plus maternity leave under the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961.
• Notice period: Either side can end the contract with one month's notice. SAIL can also end it for poor performance, misconduct, loss of licence or long-term medical unfitness.
• No claim to a regular job: The engagement is purely contractual and gives no right to a regular post in BSL.
• No TA/DA: You attend the walk-in at your own cost.
• Jurisdiction: Any dispute goes to the courts at Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand.

There is no online form. Download the Annexure-I application form attached to the advertisement, fill every field in capital letters, and bring it to the walk-in with your originals and one set of self-attested copies. No other way of applying is accepted.

The venue is the Office of the ED (M&HS), Bokaro General Hospital, Bokaro, Jharkhand 827004. Registration runs from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM on the interview day only.
