Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) Deputy Director General (Technical) Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a body corporate under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, serves as the Mission Directorate under the National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency (NMEEE). To strengthen the implementation of this critical national mission, BEE is looking for 1 Deputy Director General (Technical) on deputation or short-term contract basis. This is a senior leadership role at Level 14 in the central government pay hierarchy, primarily focused on the PAT (Perform, Achieve and Trade) scheme that drives energy efficiency across large industrial consumers in India. Experienced officers working in energy management, conservation, and policy domains from Central or State Government, PSUs, universities, and research institutions should consider this opportunity.
Who Can Apply?
Officers from Central Government, State Government, Union Territories, PSUs, Universities, Research Institutions, or Autonomous/Statutory Organizations who meet the following criteria:
Service Requirement (Either of the following):
- Analogous post: You should be holding an analogous post (equivalent to Level 14) on regular basis in your parent cadre or department
- Three years in Level 13: You should have at least 3 years of regular service in Level 13 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix (pre-revised PB-4 Rs. 37,400-67,000 with Grade Pay Rs. 8,700) or equivalent
Essential Educational Qualification:
- Option A: Master's Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Applied Economics, Business, Finance, Industrial Economics, or Energy Planning and Economics from a recognised university
- Option B: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) from a recognised university
Essential Experience:
- Minimum 16 years of experience in research, development, design, industrial, or academic activities in Government Departments, PSUs, Universities, Research Institutions, or Autonomous/Statutory Organizations
- Of the 16 years, at least 2 years must be at a senior level in energy planning or energy management, covering cost-effective improvements in energy efficiency, energy conservation, administration of energy saving schemes, and energy efficient systems in energy-intensive industries under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001
Desirable Qualifications:
- Doctorate Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Applied Economics, Business, Finance, Industrial Economics, Energy Planning and Economics, or Engineering
- Post-doctoral research work or experience in Energy Management, Energy Efficiency, or Energy Conservation
- Overall perspective of national energy issues and government policies for energy efficiency and conservation
Age Limit
- For Deputation: Maximum age should not exceed 56 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications (14 May 2026)
- For Short-Term Contract: Maximum age should not exceed 50 years as on the closing date
Salary
- Pay scale: Level 14 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix (pre-revised PB-4 Rs. 37,400-67,000 + Grade Pay Rs. 10,000)
- Basic pay ranges from Rs. 1,44,200 to Rs. 2,18,200 per month
- Officers on deputation will get pay plus Deputation (Duty) Allowance as per existing Government of India instructions
- Plus DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Central Government rules

Responsibilities
- Develop specific energy consumption norms and standards for Designated Consumers (DCs) in coordination with sector-specific associations and R&D institutions
- Analyse Annual Energy Consumption Reports and prepare methodologies for setting Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) norms
- Prepare baselines in DCs with verification of SEC norms and oversee expansion of DCs by including new sectors
- Manage the issuance process for Energy Savings Certificates (ESCerts) to eligible DCs and promote their trading
- Handle compliance, reconciliation, accounting, and depository protocols for energy savings certificates
- Keep track of indigenous and international energy-saving and energy-efficient technologies relevant to Designated Consumers
- Coordinate with Ministries, Departments, State Governments, State Designated Agencies (SDAs), and industry associations
- Promote national and international best practices, case studies, and success stories through the BEE website and other platforms
