About This Job

The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) is hiring for 78 posts across the Assam Civil Service, Assam Police Service, and other Group A/B services through the Combined Competitive Examination, 2025. This is your shot at a permanent state government job in Assam with a starting salary of Rs. 22,000 to Rs. 1,10,000 per month plus grade pay. The last date to apply is 3 May 2026, and the Preliminary Exam is tentatively scheduled for 5 July 2026.

APSC CCE 2025 Recruitment 2026 — 78 Posts

The CCE is the gateway to 11 different services in the Assam state government, including the prestigious Assam Civil Service (Jr. Grade) and Assam Police Service (Jr. Grade). Advt. No. 01/2026, dated 10 April 2026, was released by APSC headquarters in Khanapara, Guwahati. The exam runs in three stages — Prelim, Mains (six papers), and Personality Test — and the entire process follows the Assam Public Services CCE Rules, 1989 (as amended till 2023).

Out of these, 3 posts are reserved for PwBD (Locomotor disability) and 14 are reserved for women (RFW) under horizontal reservation.

Who Can Apply?

  • Nationality: You must be an Indian citizen and an original inhabitant of Assam.
  • Education: A degree from any recognised University incorporated by an Act of Central or State Legislature, or any UGC-recognised institution. Your qualification must be complete on the date of submission.
  • Language: You should be able to speak Assamese or another official/tribal language of Assam.
  • Domicile: You must be registered with a District Employment Office of Assam.
  • Other: You will need to submit a declaration on Small Family Norms (Form-A) at the Mains application stage.

Age Limit

  • Minimum: 21 years
  • Maximum: 38 years
  • Reference date: 1 January 2025
  • Age proof is your Matriculation (HSLC) certificate — no other document will be accepted.

Age relaxation:

  • SC / STP / STH — 5 years (up to 43 years)
  • OBC / MOBC — 3 years (up to 41 years)
  • PwBD — 10 years across all categories

Salary

The pay scale depends on the post you opt for under merit-cum-preference:

  • ACS (Jr. Grade) and APS (Jr. Grade): PB-4, Rs. 30,000 – Rs. 1,10,000 + Grade Pay Rs. 13,300
  • District Transport Officer, Superintendent of Excise, Asst. Registrar Cooperative Societies, AUAS (EO Jr. Gr. II): PB-4, Rs. 30,000 – Rs. 1,10,000 + Grade Pay Rs. 12,700
  • Inspector of Labour, Inspector of Excise, Asst. Employment Officer, Sub-Registrar, Research Assistant: PB-3, Rs. 22,000 – Rs. 97,000 + Grade Pay Rs. 9,400

Plus the usual government allowances — DA, HRA, and travel allowance as per Assam state rules.

Application Fee

  • General: Rs. 250 + Rs. 47.20 processing = Rs. 297.20
  • OBC / MOBC: Rs. 150 + Rs. 47.20 = Rs. 197.20
  • SC / ST / BPL / PwBD / Women: No application fee — only Rs. 47.20 processing charge

Pay online via the APSC recruitment portal. The fee window closes on 5 May 2026 at 5:00 PM. Fee once paid is non-refundable.

Selection Process

  1. Preliminary Examination (Objective): Two papers — Paper-I (General Studies-I) for 200 marks and Paper-II (General Studies-II) for 200 marks. Each paper is 2 hours. Paper-II is qualifying with 33% minimum. Negative marking — one-fourth of the question's marks for each wrong answer.
  2. Main Examination (Written): Six descriptive papers — Essay (250 marks) and General Studies Papers 2 to 6 (250 marks each). Total: 1500 marks, 3 hours per paper. You can write in English or Assamese.
  3. Interview / Personality Test: 180 marks. Candidates are called in a 1:3 ratio to vacancies. Final ranking is based on Mains + Interview totals (1680 marks total).

Final allotment to a service is on a merit-cum-preference basis. Mains is held only at the Guwahati centre.

  5. Pay the fee online and submit. No editing is allowed after final submission.

Responsibilities

  • Handle administrative, regulatory, and revenue functions in the assigned service cadre across Assam.
  • Implement state government policies, schemes, and welfare programmes at the district and sub-divisional levels.
  • Maintain law and order and supervise law enforcement teams (for ACS / APS officers).
  • Manage assigned departmental functions — transport licensing, excise enforcement, employment exchanges, or labour inspections, depending on your post.
  • Conduct field inspections, hold public hearings, and resolve grievances within your jurisdiction.
  • Prepare reports, budgets, and policy notes for senior officers and the state government.
  • Coordinate with district administration, police, and other line departments during emergencies and routine operations.
  • Follow the Assam Public Services Conduct Rules and report directly to your service Head of Department.

Exam Pattern

The selection is in three stages.

Preliminary Examination (Objective):

  • Paper-I — General Studies-I: 200 marks, 2 hours, MCQ
  • Paper-II — General Studies-II: 200 marks, 2 hours, MCQ (qualifying with 33% minimum)
  • Total: 400 marks
  • Negative marking: One-fourth of the question's marks for each wrong answer
  • Marking more than one option = wrong answer, even if one is correct

Main Examination (Written):

  • Paper-1 — Essay: 250 marks, 3 hours
  • Paper-2 to Paper-6 — General Studies: 250 marks each, 3 hours each
  • Total written: 1500 marks
  • Answers can be written in English or Assamese

Personality Test: 180 marks after qualifying the Mains. Candidates are called in a 1:3 ratio.

Grand total: 1680 marks. Final allotment is by merit-cum-preference.
